Random complaint about Dora the Explorer

I was disappointed to find out Dora doesn't speak any Spanish at all in France (she's bilingual in French & English here). Now that I am actually watching an episode with DD, it seems not just disappointing, but kind of ridiculous. Pulpo (the Octopus) is wearing a Mexican sombrero and shaking maracas, yet speaking FRENCH.

Also, cartoon voices are about a billion times harder to understand than regular adult voices in a foreign language. Poor DD, she keeps asking me what's going on in the episode and I know about as much as she does.

  • LOL. Have you experienced Rastamouse yet?

Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
  • PS- I only got about 3 hours of sleep last night, so while I realize Dora speaking French is totally normal and expected in a country that speaks French, I am a) crabbier than usual due to the lack of sleep and b) really in need of some downtime and not loving the super-intense TV watching experience with DD right now.

    No. Now I'm curious!

  • Youtube it. It's a children's cartoon in Britain about gangster rastafarian mice that fight crime and fix "teevers". They wear gangster bling and everything.

When I was a kid there was no way that poor language useage, gangster clothing and "it's okay to steal if you just apologize when you're caught" would have made it into kids shows.

  • LOL! I hate Dora's English accent in French.

Do you get the Disney channels? (for us they 112 and 113) They often play good Disney movies and the voice over in French is really well done.

*off to youtube the rasta mouse.

  • Are there any Dora episodes in Spanish on YouTube?  I was looking last night for some cartoons in French (Tchoupi and Trotro since I can't find those on DVD in the US) and was surprised that they had several episodes on Youtube.  I also found Petit Nicolas the cartoon which is sort of fun for me since I have the books.  Anyway, it is worth the try.

Now I have to go check out Rasta Mouse as well.  Between the iPad and easy access to Youtube that way it is sort of addicting!

  • Tofu, we get Rastamouse here. I haven't watched an episode yet. I'll have to tune in now.

  • I haven't seen Rastamouse, but I currently have Looney Tunes cartoons on (don't judge!) .  They have a PG rating and strongly suggest parental guidance.
