Melanie

Are you making most of your meals in advance and just reheating on weekdays? Does that work well for you? How much time do you set aside on the weekends for that then?

Re: Melanie

  • i do prefer to cook on sunday and reheat through wednesday, and then thurs are something like frozen ravioli and steamed veggies and then we usually go to my parents' on friday.

but, i will also cook something at 10pm after the kids are asleep during the week if i couldn't get to it earlier.

some foods reheat really well - so those are the ones we do often: tacos, meatballs, some cuts of chicken....

i try to leave sunday from 3-6 for cooking so i get a few meals done then. it doesn't always work.

  • Thanks. That's kind of my goal. That and using the crockpot a couple times. I have to feed the kids within 15 minutes of walking in the door if I want any chance of getting them to bed on time.

I suck at cooking and am trying really hard to get better.

I just wanted to know if that plan works for you.

    Thanks.

  • it's usually cooking only a portion though ahead of time. if i make meatballs, i take the pot from the fridge, put on the stove on a medium light to reheat and then lower to simmer. in that time, i put up another pot of water to make pasta - and we only eat pasta that cooks in 9 min or less - any other shape waits until the weekend - lol! after the pasta goes in, i have up to 9 min to nuke a veggie or cut up some fruit and set the table (nothing formal).
