Kzoo....

Can you share your chex mix recipe?  You're the one that makes 12 batches every Christmas, right?

I love chex mix, but I'm not a fan of all the add-ins (ie: I only want the cereal). I think the only way I can get that is if I make it myself.

Re: Kzoo....

  • Sorry it took me so long to respond!!!  I tried to reply on my tablet this weekend and it would only let me enter a few lines of text.  Very strange... But here is the recipe.  Feel free to omit whatever you don't want to include.  I also usually add about a cup of cherios.  The toast up really deliciously in the oven!!!  And if you're a big cereal fan, this might be a good option for you!  I also sometimes through a little tabasco sauce in the butter mixture at the begining.  It gives it a nice little kick!

    3 cups Rice Chex

    3 cups Wheat Chex

    3 cups Corn Chex

    1 cup mixed nuts

    1 cup bite-sized pretzels

1 cup bagel chips (I rarely use these)

    6 tablesppons of butter

    2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce

    1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt

    3/4 teaspoons garlic powder

    1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Heat oven to 250 degrees F.  In a large bowl mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips; set aside.  In an ungreased large roasting pan, melt  butter in oven.  Stir in seasonings.  Gradually stir in cereal mixture until everything coated evenly.  Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.  Spread on paper towels to cool (about 15 minutes).  Store in an airtight container.

There are microwaveable directions now, but I like to make it in the oven.  I think the microwave recipe seems to have a different texture.  But basically its the same thing, but cook in the microwave for 6-8 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.
