SparkPeople vs. MyFitnessPal

I've been on sparkpeople for a while, and I like it well enough, but I've noticed a lot of people using MFP.

If you've used both, which do you like more?

If you've only used MFP, what do you like about it?

Re: SparkPeople vs. MyFitnessPal

  • Sparkpeople gives you a daily calorie range no matter what your workout is that day.  It goes by your overall activity level.

MFP gives you a base calorie goal and then adds back in the calories that you burn during exercise that day.

I haven't used sparkpeople in a long time but I really liked MFP for a few reasons.

-The app is awesome.  You can even scan barcodes of packaged foods.

    - The website is really easy to use.

    - I don't like to be given a calorie "range".  I will always be on the high side.

My activity level changes based on where I am in the race training cycle and I would not want to have to keep adjusting the settings to reflect that in my calories.

  • I like MFP better too. It is easier for me to track my meals. I LOVE the barcode scanner. Really, it has made entering data so much easier. And like Kris, I was always on the high end of my range even if I didn't work out that day.

I haven't worked out in forever, so I'm not sure how easy it is to track exercise in MFP.

  • I've only used MFP and I loved it.  I lost 25 lbs using it before I got pregnant.   Need to start using it again soon!

DH started using it again this month and loves the barcode scanner with the new phone app.

  • I love MFP.  One of the things about SparkPeople that drove me crazy was the ridiculous amount of email they send (yes, I know I can change the settings).

  • Love MFP! The app is great and I love that I can scan barcodes and create my own meals. I tried SP a while ago but just didn't click with it. Many of my friends are now on it, which isn't a selling point, per se, but it's nice to be able to chime in something encouraging from time to time.
