Emma was born this morning at 10:22 am! We were scheduled for a repeat c-section at 8:30 and ended up pushed back a little because of an emergency. The nurses who prepped me and were there through the surgery were nothing short of amazing. Loved them. When I got into the OR, I was really nervous. An attending I'd never met was doing the surgery. The anesthesiologist gave me the spinal, which was super easy. I started to feel warm and tingly. But when they went to check me for numbness, I'll be damned if I didn't feel every poke and touch, etc.
I could tell the OB and anesthesiologist were skeptical, but after lots of testing, they all agreed the spinal didn't take properly. The OB wanted to move straight to general, and I kind of freaked out. A repeat c/s was ok with me, but not under general if there was no emergency. I asked if I could let the spinal wear off and try again. Didn't make anyone happy. Finally, the anesthesiologist suggested we do a light epi with the spinal, start slow and see what we needed to get a good block. I was happy with this, and it worked - but it freaked me out and I had started to cry in the OR.
Emma was born quickly and cried, but didn't pink up like they hoped. She had a ton of meconium. The nicu team worked on her for 40 minutes in the OR before they decided to take her to the nicu for her oxygen and sugar levels. Dh went with her and I called my mom to be with me in recovery because I didn't want to be alone. Luckily, I felt good in recovery quickly. No nausea. I was allowed to see dd for a few minutes before I moved to our permanent room at 11. From then on, I wasn't allowed to go again until 6pm because I wasn't walking yet. At 6, I insisted.
DD's sugars are still a little low, so we are working on getting her eating with donor milk. When we can get those numbers reasonable, she can room in. DS can't visit until she is out of the nicu. Her oxygen cleared up quickly.
Phew. That was a long story. All in all, except for the anesthesiology problem (the doc thinks the kit was faulty), the repeat csection was waaay easier than my first and I am feeling good already, just a little sore. Please send some tpj our way so that we can be with DD soon!
