I know you can give me the link for configurations of 3 carseats in a smaller car. We really want to be able to use our sedan (Hyundai) just in case something happens to our minivan. Or, use our truck (pickup) but it's narrow.

Can you give me the link so I can see if we can do it?

  • Sorry I missed you yesterday, but here's the link:

If it's a smaller car I would definitely count on needing at least one radian. I believe maestros are fairly narrow as well if the older girls fit in them (18 inch top torso height), and it can be easier to have all 5 points instead of digging in between seats to buckle a booster in a smaller backseat. If the frontier is the only seat B fits in for torso height then you'll need to look at boosters for her as there's pretty much no situation in which a frontier works in a 3 across. The graco turbobooster is fairly narrow and is known to give almost all kids a good fit in almost all vehicles, so that would be the first one I tried.

If it's tight and B needs a booster a lot of people leave the booster buckled all the time and have the kid loosen the seatbelt and climb under it to get in then tighten.

  • Thanks. I know that we can't use the frontier. I was thinking I could put her in a regular booster seat. She's responsible enough. She is petite though and 42lbs at 6 years old. BUT, mostly this will be for emergencies or short trips only.

    Thanks so much!

  • Also, is there a page that helps out with all the abbreviations?

  • There is not a page about abbreviations, but if you ask me I can help you out (I got into that site when I needed tall seats that fit in the beetle and became interested in the intricacies, so I follow it quite a bit).

As for putting B in a booster, there's no reason at all not to. She meets the minimum weight (and I assume height) requirements and at 6 she's unlikely not to have the maturity to sit correctly. A booster in the second car is actually a great way to test her out and start booster training her before removing the harness on her frontier.
