moving to NC in 90 days !

Hi Ladies - I posted about a year ago saying that we were moving to the area - low and behold - its finally happening.

DH is taking a lateral transfer to the Morrisville, NC office - we were told on Friday ( yesterday ) and we will be leaving around the end of April.

anyways - does anyone have any recommendations of areas to look at ( or to avoid ) - I think I remember people saying Cary and Apex were nice - our budget to purchase is about $300K

thanks !

  • Welcome to NC!

I don't have much information on Cary b/c I'm in Durham. I hope you have an easy move. This board has been super dead lately hence the lack of responses.

  • I also don't have much recommendations as far as where to live because we live outside of Apex, but not in it.

I will say that I do like a lot of Apex and Cary though and have found that they have a lot of great shopping areas as well as parks and fun things to do.

When we first started looking for a house about 3 years ago, we started in Apex, but ended up in a more country-ish area.

I hope the move goes smoothly for you guys and congrats on the transfer! (Assuming that it's something you guys were hoping for) :o)

  • We just bought a house in Apex last summer and we love it there.  We found that our money went further in Apex than it did in Cary.

If you're Google-mapping be sure you zoom in far enough to see where the new part of 540 is being cut (look around the Olive Chapel/Kelly Rd intersection to see what I'm talking about).  Some of the neighborhoods over there (Ashley Downs, Kelly Glen, part of Scotts Mill) will have lots backing up to the new interstate, and I know a lot of those homes are for sale.

Anywhere around the hwy 55/High House rd area will be a quick and easy jump over to Morrisville.  That area is technically Cary, but isn't the heart of Cary if you know what I mean.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info on certain neighborhoods or need a realtor (ours was great) or anything like that.  Like I said, we just went through this last summer.

  • Morrisville, Cary, Apex are all really nice.  The brier creek area of Raleigh would be really convienent to Morrisville too.  I'd suggest renting for a little bit until you get familiar with the area.

  • I also think renting first is a good idea. Good luck with your move.

oh yeah - we will totally rent first - we are in the process of selling our house here -- we will most likely rent for 1 year and then start the purchasing process

  • Welcome to the area,

We just moved to that area (Green Level Church Rd/O'Kelly Chapel) a year ago from the DC area and work almost in Morrisville. I would be glad to help you figure out some good areas as we are also looking for a house in that price range for family.

    What are you looking for?

  • I'm guessing you have already moved to NC by now; I am just now getting into the blogging on here.  Did you move to Cary? My parents live in Cary, but are moving to Kure Beach and selling their townhome.  It is a beautiful townhome, well maintained if you are still looking!

Welcome to NC! Let me know if you need any suggestions for where to go in Cary.  There is a resturant called Tribecca that you HAVE to go to, ask for Jay or Keith as your waitor ;-).
