Why did my dog pee on my bed?

I posted yesterday about my dog who has cancer and has taken a turn for the worse.  She has a large tumor on her belly and she as of yesterday would not lay down with out help and when i lay her down, she will not get up.  She is obviously in pain.  Well, she is almost 10 and from day one she has never peed in the house.

Yesterday we went out for about an hour and when we came home she had peed on my bed and was laying near it (on the bed). I thought maybe she just couldn't hold it and could not get up easily.  Well early this morning she was laying in her bed and she started whining so I went to comfort her and she stopped whining.  I got back in bed and I heard her tying to get up.  She was actually able to and then came over and got on my bed (she never sleeps with us, she has a fear of blankets covering her and has always slept in her crate).  Next thing I know she is peeing on my bed with me in it!  Why did she do that? Is she trying to tell me something?  It was just so unlike her.  If she really just had to go why didn't she just pee on the floor?  In the past when she has had to go in the middle of the night she will go to our bedroom door and let us know.

Sorry I know this is long and probably confusing.  Thanks for reading.

  • I didn't read your post from yesterday, but maybe she just can't hold it. This is just a guess, but maybe when she's laying down its harder to control her bladder. Once she stood up, she felt okay. I don't know. Sorry to hear about your pup.

  • Sorry about your dog, I also have a dog who has cancer, she has accidents when she is not feeling well. I noticed with her she will pee on a dog bed or carpet rather than the floor. She is smart so I think she does it because she thinks I won`t notice it. But I do. I just try and get her out the door more often.
