should i cancel my spa day?

i have a GC for the spa from christmas and i'm supposed to be going saturday.  i feel strange about getting pampered with a massage, facial and cut/color while my husband is unemployed.  i'm not even sure i can really enjoy it.  thought maybe i would just get my hair taken care of since i haven't gotten it cut in over a year and it needs some attention....i'd save the real indulgences for later when i can feel better about it.  WWYD?

Re: should i cancel my spa day?

  • I wouldn't cancel it - you have a g/c - but if you're already feeling guilty (which IMO is just silly) then cancel it because you won't enjoy it.

  • I wouldn't cancel since you have the GC.

  • why feel guilty, you are not spending the money to go- if you were going to blow $$$ on it then sure I can see being smarter with money and not going, but there is no reason to feel guilty.

  • Don't cancel it. Think positive. Maybe your dh will find something great this week and you can use it to enjoy the goodness next weekend.

  • It depends. Does the gc cover everything? Is the cash tip affordable to you?

Its ok to enjoy something, to have some happiness and relaxation even when times are tough. I just wouldn't spend what I couldn't afford because that would stress me out in the end

  • i *think* it covers everything including tip but i'm going to call and ask since i switched some services around.  if it doesn't cover something (tip included) i won't do it.  i'm hoping i can enjoy the relaxing parts but i'm afraid i'll just be stressed in that quiet time. i do better when i'm busy these days.

he does have at least 1 interview this week and is in serious talks with a headhunter about another position.  i'm hoping he'll have an interview there this week too.  it would be nice to have something worked out by this weekend!

  • Don't feel  guilty about the spa day when it was a Christmas gift. I can understand why it's hard, but I'd feel more guilty that the money spent on the gc was wasted than on getting the pampering. Go, enjoy it, and let it help you get through this.

  • Even in our most stressful times we deserve nice things. Unless, you'll need to put out $$ you should go. And if you can cancel a part of it to ensure that it is all covered I would do that. Sometimes, a nice day to yourself and some pampering (especially when it doesn't cost you anything!) is exactly what you need to brighten your mood and give you a positive outlook. Cancelling will only make you sadder IMO. GO.

  • no- it's a GC. if you were paying cash, then yeah, maybe not the best idea unless you have a ton of cash in the bank. but i think this is the perfect reason to enjoy it, it's a high stress time.
  • get your hair done, then whatever you can have covered with the rest of it.  then it's utilitarian and an indulgence at the same time.  no guilt!

  • Don't feel guilty.  Go and enjoy yourself.

If money is what's making you uneasy, it's not much out of pocket.  If it's the fact that your husband just got laid off, you need something to help manage your stress, plus you had it scheduled already.
