Re: Ban on UGGS!

  • The problem isn't the shoes, it's the school's and parents' inability to enforce the 'no phones' rule. How hard is it - you get caught with a phone,it gets taken away. If they're going to ban Uggs, then they need to ban pants with pockets, purses, etc.

  • I saw that the other day and my first thought was that the school is challenging the kids to find a new way to hide their phones. If they want to stop kids from hiding cell phones on them they need better punishments for being caught. I'm thinking first offense you can't bring a phone to school for a week, second offense a month, third offense the rest of the year. But I guess this also means they need parents at home enforcing this, which seems to be a problem these days. I would enforce the school's policy and put up with the pain when my kid can't call me, but many parents would probably just tell their kids not to get caught again or that the teacher was wrong.

I totally agree with you, but it frustrates me so much to hear that it's just accepted that a parent "can't" or "won't" enforce something. You're the parent - step up to the plate, for god's sake! I have such a short fuse for stuff like this.

I'm with you! If my kid's school called and said they were caught with a cell phone and couldn't bring it to school for the week they wouldn't have access to it outside of school for that week either. I remember the days when if you got in trouble at school your parents were mad at you, not the teacher. I've seen parents at my prek who think their kid can do no wrong and it disgusts me. They're kids, of course they do things they shouldn't. Even if you disagree with a teacher's rule, it's their classroom and kids need to learn to follow rules even if you/they disagree with them. That's life.

  • Lol my friend lives there I'm gonna have to ask her about this.  Kids are really creative and will find somewhere else to put their phones. I mean, some kids even cheat on tests by putting answers on te back of the water bottle labels - now that's creative!
