Pregnancy Books

Does anyone have any books about pregnancy to recommend?  I'm not talking about the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" type of book. I"ve got several books about what happens each month and so on.  Just wondering if there were any good reads out there about being pregnant and/or preparing for a child.  Thanks!

Re: Pregnancy Books

  • I really liked Baby Bargains for helping narrow down the overwhelming amount of stuff that you need to register for/buy.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Ditto Baby Bargains, also Baby 411 by the same people.

I liked Belly Laughs (silly quick read)

Maybe some books about breastfeeding, if you plan to BF. The Nursing Mother's Companion, and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding are good.

I liked the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy - good reference and not as alarmist as WTE.

Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth

Dr. Sears - The Baby Book (There's also a Birth Book, I don't have that one though)

    HTH!

  • Thank you for the recommendations!  I checked out a few books from the library to get a feel of what I like.  I've already decided I hate What to Expect.  I do like the  Mayo Clinic book.

    this.

  • Check out some of those written for the guys. I ended up liking my husband's books better than my own. They also seemed to include stuff ours never mentioned for some reason. Of course they are also written in a more comical way than a lot of the women's books, too.

I;m enjoying this one too, as well as Expecting 411 and Baby 411. Both informative but not horrifying like 'What to Expect'

I also ready Belly Laughs and Baby Laughs, easy and quick reads.

  • Ditto Baby Bargains, Girlfriend's Guide and Belly Laughs.

For after the baby arrives, I highly recommend Baby 411 and Heading Home with your Newborn.  Heading Home is an American Pediatrics Association publication and it's really good.  Baby 411 is a wonderful quick reference guide for all sorts of things you'll encounter with baby.
