4 day diet, for those who were wondering

The 4 day diet is a chemical diet (works with the combination of foods to burn fat). It's something my trainer from years ago gave me as something that many celebs use to lose weight quick (he was a trained olympic athlete and worked with a few celebs).  It is probably close to other 4 day diets. After the 4 day diet you start with your normal diet you want to do, or just start eating healthier. It gets rid of a lot of water weight and boosts the start of weight loss. but anytime you lose weight fast you will probably gain some back.

I will tell you it is very hard to stick to. and like many of these 4 or 5 day diets is essentially a type of fast because of its limited calorie intake. The food combos are so weird, but the first time i did it I lost like 15 lbs and had a lot of energy afterwards. I tend to do fasts once a year at least for this reason, so this is a little eaiser than that.

Day 1

  • Breakfast: Black coffee and 1/2 grapefruit
  • Lunch: 2oz steak, Lettuce and tomato salad, 1 apple
  • Dinner: 2 hard boiled eggs, 1/2 cup string beans, 1/2 grapefruit

Day 2

  • Breakfast: Black coffee and 1/2 grapefruit
  • Lunch: 3 oz fish or chicken breast or lamp chops, lettuce and tomato salad
  • Dinner: 1/2 cup squash or cauliflower, /2 cup string beans, 1/2 grapfruit

Day 3

  • Breakfast: Black coffee and 1/2 grapefruit
  • Lunch: 3oz hamburger patty, celery and lettuce, 1 apple
  • Dinner: 3oz chicken, 1/2 cup stewed tomatoes, 4 oz prune juice

Day 4

  • Breakfast: Black coffee and 1/2 grapefruit
  • Lunch: 2 eggs scrambled, 1/2 cup string beans, 4 oz tomato juice
  • Dinner: 2 oz steak, lettuce salad, 4oz pineapple juice

If I am having a hard time sticking to it, I think i will try to just bump up some of the services (like a whole grapefruit instead of a 1/2). But we will see.

    I will probably drink more than that, but at least 8. I drink a lot of water normally. I will let you all know.

  • Are there substitutes for any of those things?  I'm asking because I don't like coffee or grapefruit

  • Let me know if you are hungry... I usually eat 4-6 snacks and small meals a day, so I feel like I would just physically miss the eating.

    Ditto, my body is very used to eating small meals/snacks every 2-3 hours.

  • There isn't any that I know off hand for sure. But I imagine you could sub any citrus for grapefruit and tea for coffee (i think it is about the caffine). I am subbing edame beans for string beans.

    As for being hungry, like any fast I am very hungry. That is why it is so hard for me to stick to. I tend to snack all day when I am home, it isn't a problem if I am at school all day, but now I only have a day of that.  I will try to stretch out the meals eat a little, go do something, then eat a little more. Like I said it is better than a complete fast or juice fast, both of which I do pretty often.

    I'm not entirely sure that is the case.  I was reading the 4 hour body, and he was saying that there is a chemical that the grapefruit produces that helps increaes your metabolism or something.  I don't quite remember exactly...

    Ok, with the assistance of Dr. Google, I found this on the Medical News Today website:

    "Additionally, the research indicates a physiological link between grapefruit and insulin, as it relates to weight management. The researchers speculate that the chemical properties of grapefruit reduce insulin levels and encourage weight loss."

  • I wouldn't be able to do it. I would be starving by the end of the 4 days and go on a binge. I am used to eating every 2-3 hours during the day. I would also be super cranky.
  • I don't eat meat, or drink coffee, so I would never be able to do this!!  Good luck to you!

    I was miserable when I did mine, lol. It allowed you to eat all the leafy greens you could/wanted, and I HATE leafy greens. Then, after eating about 4 cups of spinach a day and whining, I gained two lbs! Talk about cranky THEN! lol  But I'm the only one I know who hasn't had any success over those 4 days.

  • This sounds very similar to the LA Weight Loss take off diet. It is a 2 day diet though instead of 4 days. With that diet, you eat cantaloupe instead of grapefruit. I would bet since the diets are very similar, you could substitute.

    You probably gained weight because your metabolism slowed way down! I've heard of this happening when people cut back severely on calories. Unfortunately your brain/body dont know that it's only 4 days.

    I wish any of you luck that decide to do this, but you should talk to a doctor first and be careful!
