New York vs. New England (Superbowl food related!)

Every year dh and I have a Superbowl party and I try to have food that represents the teams that are playing.  I am trying to think of ideas for NY vs. NE.  My only "criteria" this year is that I want most of the food to be make-ahead - I DO NOT want to be cooking during the game (like last year when I had to get up during the second quarter to heat perogis and cook brats!  So, NY Strip steak is out!

Here are my ideas so far (I won't serve all of this food)....any more?

Clam Chowder (probably NE, although dh thinks we should do NE vs. Manhattan, but that's a lot of chowder and the party isn't that big!)

Cheddar cheese (either NE or VT - maybe fondue?)

Cheesecake (NY)

Iced tea (NE - "Boston Tea Party)

Baked beans (which I really don't see people eating - NE)

Deli platter (NY)

Sam Adams beer, and probably Brooklyn Lager

I know I could post this on entertaining or food, but these posts seem to last longer!  TIA

  • just an idea- if you are going to make baked beans then why not make some ny coney island hot dogs to go with it? have fun
  • Toll house cookies are from NE

How about macaroni and cheese?  I think Martha Stewart's Mac-n-cheese 101 uses VT cheddar.

    Anything with blueberries (Maine)

    Lobstah........

  • To me, this isn't a menu, but a random collection of dishes based upon a theme. I would step back and look at your offerings objectively as parts of a whole meal.
  • Do your guests "get it"?

I realize the above are not a "meal" - - that is why I am looking for additional ideas in order to make something that is more cohesive.

Yes, the guests "get it," - - I make something from the two teams playing every year.  Someone is already bringing a deli platter and someone else is bringing Toll House cookies.

  • Big New York sliced pizzas. The two handed required and fold in half slices!
