cooking lamb.....dog gets out of control

Hello all - I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. My fianc? was cooking lamb tonight - the first time since we've had our pooch - and our poor dog went INSANE....I'm talking shaking, pacing, whining, wanting to go outside, etc. He is very laid back, and not afraid or anxious, so I was so concerned. I honestly thought he was sensing something was leaking in the house, like carbon monoxide or something...I just didn't have a clue how to console him. He was sniffing the air crazily, and just couldn't handle being near the kitchen. Once the lamb stopped cooking, he calmed down and is almost back to normal. I have seen many reports online of people having this experience...can any of you tell me if your dogs do this as well!? What causes it?! I know lamb has quite the smell, and their smell is so much better than ours, so it's magnified, but I don't get it. He went crazy, and it worries me. Any advice would be so helpful! What a weird night we've had!

Re: cooking lamb.....dog gets out of control

  • I've made lamb a couple of times.  There was shaking, pacing, whining, sniffing of the air, and general craziness, but I'm afraid it was from my lamb-loving husband, not the dog.

Do you cook it frequently?  Perhaps you could arrange to take your dog for a long time next time your fiance cooks it.  Or maybe you could grill it outside?  Grilled lamb is amazing.
