Soap actor kills self after killing his pit bull

Here

Don't you think what he did was a tad....drastic?

I mean, couldn't he have just moved? Soap stars make adequate money, don't they? I hardly think I make a great salary, but I could definitely afford to rent my condo out and move to a friendlier apt if my neighbors were harassing me that much.

Still sad though.

Re: Soap actor kills self after killing his pit bull

  • I think there has to be underlying depression, or other things going on, and that it wasn't all about the dog.

    It's really, really sad though.

I agree. There is more to this story. A history of depression or something. Did it say why the dog was euthanized?

Agree with ARO, there was underlying depression.

Also, from what I've read, he was struggling in the acting department.

Yes, apparently he was facing a $250 fine for a noise complaint. I'm not really sure, because numerous articles have said he was harrassed for having a pit bull and a lot say it wasn't the case at all.

I'd buy that he was harrassed. It just sucks that he didn't feel he had any other options but to euthanize his dog to get his neighbors off of his back.

I read the part about the fine - but it just doesn't make sense to me that he would euthanize his dog just because of a fine. If you're a soap star - wouldn't this be an "easy" fine to pay? Obviously more to the story, and I really want to know! (I'm nosy!)

  • Well, it says he was in 6 All my Children and 7 Guiding Light episodes, hardly a Soap "Star", more like an occasional Soap Actor.  I doubt he was rolling in the dough.

Regardless, I think there was underlying issues here than the dog.

  • I agree there was more going on.  Part of my suspects he wanted to commit suicide and decided to have his dog put down before doing it.

I thought of this last night.

I still find it all so sad.

  • That whole situation is very sad.
  • This just broke my heart.

From what I read, his condo association voted on a "No Pit Bulls" policy. But since the dog already lived there, he was grandfathered in.

However, some residents? or board members? (not sure on the details) were harassing him about the dog. Some complained the dog was barking a lot, but its not clear what that had to do with anything.

His family feels as if he was pressured into getting rid of the dog. But why he felt putting the dog down was the answer, we'll never know.

He was probably a very sick man and not thinking very clearly. Still, it upsets me that his condo board would be so rude after grandfathering in the dog.

I don't know that there are any real innocents here.

    Very sad indeed.

He probably believed that getting rid of the dog would have resulted in its death, anyway.

  • As someone attempting to move with two dogs and facing a very difficult time in doing so, I understand it. And honestly, my dogs are the ONLY reason I get up everyday. I will fight til the end, but at one point there has to be and end.

I know it sounds like a bad PSA, but please, if things are desperate... don't go it alone.  While there isn't a miracle cure to life's issues, you're not alone in needing to move and in needing temp care for your pets.  It can be done.  If you need local referrals or options, please post.

To the OP-- very sad situation. Definitely sounds like the actor had more going on than the status quo.

Sorry but thanks for the laugh, I am sure you meant it in a nice way. I have already been in hell for 19 months.

But really I get the frustration and anger and feeling of hopelessness in his situation. After a while it becomes too much. At least in my area, for every house there are 5 applicants, and some haven't even seen the house. The people with dogs are going to be picked last. Those who don't have perfect financials (such as an actor, or a widow who's family ownes a business) get picked last.

  • Not trying to pick a fight and/or trivialize his situation or yours.  Just was concerned by the tone/message of the post.  Not being critical, but sounded like things were pretty rough and, while no one has the magic key to happiness, wouldn't want you/anyone to feel totally alone/ w/o options.

I know moving is a PITA (believe me, I moved to feakin' Italy).  However, IME, more often than not people will help out.  To be honest, as an absentee landlord, I wasn't keen on renting to people with pets (although I'm a dog owner myself).  However, when people showed me they were serious about renting and committed to properly caring for their pet, I agreed to rent to them.  It's been a good relationship-- approx 7mos into it.  Long way of saying, even if it looks like a firm "no" (ie me), it doesn't hurt to ask (ie me).

Good luck and again sorry if it sounded like I was trivializing your feelings... not my intent.
