I just finished The Hunger Games, and 11/22/63. They were both really good. Then I started The Alchemyst, and I am not digging it. I need suggestions!
Re: What are you reading?
I am Currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Blonde Roots. I am not far enough into either to have an opinion yet.
I just finished The Pleasure of My Company, which I enjoyed. It was a quick read and I like Steve Martin's style, so I liked it. I also just finished Gossip Girl, which was much better than I expected. I touch darker than the TV show, but still mindless fluff.
I also have God is Not Great and The Devil in the Junior League stored on my Kindle to read.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I need to pick a book and start reading. DH got me a tablet for Christmas and it has a program with 10,000 free ebooks on it. I am so overwhelmed by it.
I end up spending 45 minutes scrolling through and finding a ton I want to read and I don't know where to start.
This is much like how I am with netflix. There is too much to pick from!!!
At dinner on Friday night a friend urged me to start reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Any thoughts on that?
FKB - Eyes of the Dragon was the first SK book I ever read. I went through a phase in HS where I read quite a few of them after that.
I just finished book 2 of the Hunger Games, I'll start the third one this weekend. I'm reading the first Game of Thrones book & a free book I downloaded on the Kindle - Return of the Runaway Bride. Not terrible, but not great. Something I picked up in the middle of the night once when C was throwing a fit.
I just finished Replay by Ken Grimwood. It was written in 83 about a guy who replays his life over and over but keeps the memories from each life. Kinda sci-fi but a pretty good story.
Also finished Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Still have no idea why I read it.
Now I'm reading A Game of Thrones by R. R. Martin. I got the first four for Christmas.
I'm kind of all over the charts with my reading.
I liked it. I've only read the first one, and it did take me while to get started. I think that was partially because I was reading it on the Kindle app on my phone. But once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Fair warning, it is a little graphic, but it didn't bother me. I've just heard some mention it.
I am almost done with book 2 of the Hunger Games.
Next will be the third Hunger Games book, which I will likely start tonight or tomorrow.
I also have the newest installment of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series on my Nook. It is vampire suspense/romance. They are ok...certianly not my J.R. Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood caliber of addiction though.
I think I am going to read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo after the abovementioned.
I started A Game of Thrones... I haven't read it in a while though, the beginning is kind of slow so it hasn't taken hold to where I can't put it down.
Steve Jobs - We're reading it for a book discussion group at work. I'm almost half through it... It's interesting.
Runner's World Complete Book of Women's Running: The Best Advice to get Started, Stay Motivated, Lose Weight, Run Injury-Free, Be Safe, and Train for Any Distance (Runner's World Complete Books) - It's been informative and helpful for me...
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
I enjoyed the series. They are quite graphic.
I can say that I'm glad I listened to the audiobooks of these. I know that I would have struggled with pronunciation of all of the names/places. And the audiobook reader had an awesome accent.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I did a little search through my bookshelf while waiting for ideas, and I decided to start In the Garden of Beasts. Really good so far. I like Erik Larson a lot.
You guys jogged my memory on ones I've wanted to try (Good Omens and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close). I have actually read about half of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks--I really liked it, but put it down months ago to read something else, and never picked it back up. I'll have to get back into it. Of course I'll have to go back several chapters to remember what the heck was going on.
I'm reading a stupid book, but now I have to finish it bc I paid $9.99 for it. It's called Confessions of the Applewood PTA. The Amazon sample I got was cute but it started to tank right after the sample section. Lots of graphic sex and the word f-ck. hate when writers use that as a crutch to carry a story. There should be a rating system for books like there is for movies.
I may read The Hobbit next.
me too - i didn't get quite half way, but it just didn't grab my attention. maybe i should push through like pagas did; i've heard nothing but great things about it!
about to start 11/22/63, I've heard lots of good things about it.
Reading Sun Stand Still, and Lamb (can't get into this one)
We should start a Houston Nestie Virtual Book Club
i tried to get into good omens, i just couldn't. it's really spastic and i just got too annoyed with it.
at lunch today i started A Game of Thrones series.
Ran Away (Benjamin January Mysteries) by Barbara Hambly
The 9th book in this series. I don't typically read series, but I really like the historical details this author gives. The main character is really sympathetic, so I miss him at the end of each book.
