Kelpie follow-up

Hi there! Just thought I'd check in about my anxious, destructive Kelpie!

She just about went in the free dog box Thursday after eating my favorite bra. But luckily, DH rescued her. :) We talked to our vet (whom we adore), and he recommended calling our local BarkBusters behavioralist. It seems like everyone has their opinion about this franchise service, but our vet has never steered us wrong, and said that he's sent lots of high-anxiety puppies to BarkBusters and has never heard a complaint.

So we have an appointment for Saturday. I've checked online, and our local behavioralist has gotten a LOT of positive reviews. I'll let you know how it goes.

Meanwhile, I had a brainstorm and picked up a TreatStick and a Busy Buddy over the weekend. This morning, I put each dog's food inside a toy (instead of their bowls). They were so busy getting their breakfast when I left that they didn't notice I had gone. Good sign! I also picked up a couple Nylabone-like long-lasting bones, too.

Oh, and Rescue Remedy. The vet suggested I put some in her food in the mornings, so I did that, too. She was TERRIBLE with Koa yesterday, actually snarling and snapping at him. Usually, he takes it until she gets too obnoxious, then is REALLY good at gently but firmly putting her in her place.

So that's where we're at. We'll see what the destruction is like when DH gets home today, and I'll keep you posted on how BarkBusters works.

Re: Kelpie follow-up

  • I have actually never heard of Bark Busters, So I hope that working with them and their behaviorist works out well for you!

Have you noticed the rescue remedy helping at all?

Did you ask the vet about her housebreaking issues to make sure it wasn't something medical?

  • I'd look for an actual behaviorist. Barkbusters is not positive based and us just a francise training. I doubt they have cerification
