Can you help me understand the whole pre-existing condition thing with more than a 30 day lapse in coverage?
I am currently paying for health insurance on my own. I got a new job and the health insurance starts 3/1. If I don't pay the next premium of my current insurance I will only have been covered through 1/16. That would be over 30 days that my insurance would lapse.
Also, what is considered pre-existing?
Thanks!
Re: HR/Benefits Nesties...
not an HR nestie, but I would bet that "pre-existing" definitions vary by policy/insurer. But it likely will cover anything currently being treated or treated within some recent-ish time frame.
You are correct that if you don't pay your premium for the next 2 months (1/16-2/16 & 2/16-3/16) you will have a lapse of coverage.
Pre-existing is going to be different per plan/carrier. I would highly recommend reaching out to HR at your new job and asking for the definition before not paying your existing policy.
