Point me in the right direction...

I'm looking for any kind of blog that could give me tips for "going green", little by little. Does anyone know of one or two that are helpful?

Re: Point me in the right direction...

  • I can't think of one that just blogs steps, but there are a lot that give good ideas, just not in an order.  I like:

    http://www.ecofriendlyandfrugal.com/

    http://jenandjoeygogreen.blogspot.com/

    http://www.theecofriendlyfamily.com/

I have some tips in my blog as well: http://melissasimplelife.blogspot.com/

After being a recylcer for a long time, I my first biggest change was making homemade cleaning supplies or  buying eco-friendly products.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you so much!! I feel a little overwhelmed (and guilty) right now because there is so much we could improve upon I am not sure where to start.  I like your suggestion on cleaning supplies, I think that's do-able.
Thanks again! I can't wait to check out the blogs you listed

  • No blogs but you said there's so much more you can do.  Really, unless you're living "off the grid" there is more any of us can do.  Just every little thing helps.  Make a list of some things you'd like to do. Then hang it up.  Once you start to do one w/out thinking about it, start focusing on the next item.

So many things are little but add up...

    • turn off lights/use natural light/use energy efficient bulbs
    • combine car trips/walk where you can
    • use reusable bags at the grocery (this one is hard b/c I ALWAYS forget to take my bags into the store)
    • buy organic/local/etc...
    • stop shopping/use what you have/ask yourself if you need a new item/refurbish/repurpose what you already have/shop craigslist/goodwill/etc...
    • recycle/reuse/repurpose (see above)
    • do not throw things away that someone else could use...take to goodwill or craigslist it, don't put it in the garbage/compost
    • use a water barrell/move potted plants out into the rain/save water used to cook pasta in...once it cools, use to water plants
    • don't buy cleaning products (most things can be cleaned w/vinegar, baking soda and lemon) or use biodegradable products
    • buy fresh food...not packaged/processed to eliminate packing waste
    • print double-sided at work, use old paper for scrap paper, etc...

It sounds like a lot but eventually it's second-nature.  It's not huge but it's a lot that YOU are doing to help.  You can only do your part.
