Boston - Train or Fly?

I need to go for business and want to get there fast, but it seems, even on Acela, its still 4 hours by train? how have you gone and whats easiest/fastest? Thanks!!

Re: Boston - Train or Fly?

  • Depends on how close you live to Newark. Easiest? Acela. Fastest? Flight.

  • Id drive. LOL. But with flying you have to factor in delays, esp in this time of year...and also getting to airport, waiting, boarding, deboarding, getting luggage etc. I'd take the train but wtf do I know.
No thanks, I don't need child porn or Tweets from this site---thanks for the memories nesties---RIP, Franco---2004--2012.
  • Flying and going through security plus potential delays make the airport seem like a rough idea. I'd drive personally but its 3-4 hours from where I am. My second choice would be the train. For what its worth I recently had a client come in on the acela and she said she always does that because she doesn't worry as much about the weather that way.

  • I've never felt it was worth it to fly that short a distance. By the time you factor in the time getting to and from the airport, allowing time for security, etc you haven't saved any time over driving or taking the train but have the aggravation of flying. I personally would drive. If you don't want to drive, then definitely do acela.

  • We've driven there in four hours. I would think that getting to the airport, going through security, flight time and deboarding would take at least that amount of time.

  • I always travel to boston on business via acela. It is so much easier and I actually enjoy the couple of hours of peace ot get things done and prepare for my meetings.

Agreed - and if you happen to fly and you go out of EWR, there are always delays or you have to connect via LGA which is a pain.  If you are close to PHL, I would recommend flying - otherwise, take the train.  The wifi is spotty, but the Acela is comfortable and easy.

  • We have to go up to Boston every so often now for medical appointments for two of my children. It isn't a bad car ride, took about 4 hours to get there. If I am going up without my husband though I will fly. Jetblue has some pretty cheap flights.

  • fly delta shuttle out of LGA- own terminal, hardly any security wait, etc... if you want to fly- Mike usually drives up and would NEVER take the train to Boston. If he doesn't fly, he drives-

  • If you fly, avoid Continental/United, they'll delay those flights first because they are typically commuter flights.

I'm flying Wednesday on Jet Blue EWR to BOS.

    $245 (cheaper than Acela roundtrip)

  • For obvious reasons, I will never fly into Boston again.
