Leave Your Two Cents...Negotiating the Best Lease

DH and I have to bring in our car to lease another car.  We are bringing the car in early as if we wait until August, we'll be over mileage, and we'd like to get something new now.  I have a Toyota Camry, and we're not sure if we're going to stay with Toyota or not.   We are both clueless when dealing with car stuff.  Can you tell me your best tactics?  How do I do research?  Just got a bunch of quotes online?  Thanks for your help!

Re: Leave Your Two Cents...Negotiating the Best Lease

  • Research it all online, request quotes, negotiate everything via email once you've narrowed down what you want. We've done that for my last three cars and it works brilliantly. You'll probably do best staying with Toyota because of loyalty incentives, but look at everything and then negotiate it all online, and don't be afraid to tell dealer B that dealer A offered you a better deal and give them a chance to beat it.

  • They are just going to let you out of your lease early?  I'm in the same situation...mine is up in May and I'm already at the mileage...so it sits in our driveway until then since I'd have to pay the remaining payments on it to get out of it.  It's hard to get quotes online for leases since pretty much no one qualifies for the special rates they advertise online...I'm curious to see what you do!

yes, you can definitely bring your car in early.  We're constantly getting notes from other dealers in the mail to come on buy and trade in early.  We're at 31,000 and can't go past 36,000, and we're up I think the first week of August.  I rather just do it now in the winter and see if we can get a better deal.

You can request to end the lease early.  I've never kept a lease till the end but MH works at the dealership.  But before that when I was in my early 20's, the nissan dealership I went to didnt have a black one on the lot so they took over my lease and I owed nothing.  Thats what MH's lot has done as well but I think its more cause he works there, but it never hurts to ask.

  • I have tried getting out a bunch of times but there is no demand for my car. They'll let me get out one of twinkling early but I have to get another car from them, snd they don't sell/lead vans so I'm out of luck. Even when I did turn ig in early once, they did the mileage for what it should be at that point not he end of the lease, and I owed money.
