We are getting back 1/2 the amount we did last year. Yeah, I know, that means I didn't give Uncle Sam more of my $$ interest free - but I like getting back a big hunk of change. I'm assuming it's cause we re-financed and paid a considerable amount less in interest on our mortgage AND the way our taxes were calculated & paid this year the last payment was made in Jan 2012. The kicker is when I got done entering in the amount we pay for dependent care Turbo Tax told me I should look into seeing if my employer had an FSA plan available to maximize my cost savings. GEE, THANKS!!!! I know!!!!!! They Don't.
Plus some how we're owing NJ and I don't understand why.
I've loved using Turbo Tax for the last 3 years but this year it's screwing me, I just feel it. I'm all thrown off cause I had a FSA for the first part of the year for dependent care & then we switched to an HSA medical plan in August. I'm not familiar with how either of these things affect taxes so I'm nervous that I'm forgetting to do something that could get us more money.
So now, I have to investigate all this crap, look everything over and then possibly get our taxes done by someone. I can't afford to loose money.
Oh, and did I mention that they are laying someone off tomorrow and I'm not feeling the warm and fuzzies about the state of the company? I feel like I'm going to hurl. I feel like the other shoe is going to drop at any freaking moment and I'm gonna be out on my fatass.
Thanks for listening to me rant.
Re: I hate doing taxes.
ugh, sorry to hear that.
I just organized all our tax stuff the other day. I still have to sit down and do it, I hate this time of year. Ugh.
Upon further investigation I think the mortgage company F'd up our taxes. We re-financed right at the end of 2010. Our first tax payment of 2011 was due in January. I only see 3 tax payments in 2011.
Shitshitshitshitshitshitshit.
Call your town first and see if you can get a statement from them, then contact the mortgage company(s). Just thinking it may be easier to get it cleared up with the town first than to deal with the bank. Or at least you'll have more info when you call the bank.
No, this is my city tax, through the mortgage. It seems that when we refinanced at the end of 2010 they did not pay my Jan 2011 tax payment to the town. I have no idea where my escrow balance went, since I see it being deducted with the payoff of the old loan.
I love discovering these things late at night when you can't call anyone to get answers. There's no way in hell that I'm going to be able to sleep tonight with this on my mind.
