Feral cat update...PsIPs
So, yesterday DH and I went down to feed the cats. There was a reporter down there, he had done a newspaper piece about them a while ago, wanted to do an update, blah blah blah. He told us that an animal control truck had been down earlier that day. What. the. Hell.
So I call someone (*waves*--you know who you are!) who can get me some info from AC. Apparently someone called in about the cats. AC went down there. The person who called it in also took two of the cats to the humane society. *headdesk*
I know she (whoever "she" is) was just trying to be helpful, but no. Just no.
So now I'm trying to study for an exam I have tomorrow, waiting to hear back from the humane society to see if I can bust these cats out, or if they'd rather keep them and adopt them out, or WTH is going on. And I'm making signs to let people know to leave the stinking cats alone.
And (and I realize it's all because school is making me a stress ball) I am way more concerned and stressed out about this than I probably need to be. I just really don't want those cats sitting in the shelter where they could catch God knows what when they could be at my house. Letting me pet them. And lowering my stress level. lol
I'm not even sure which cats she took, because they come and go as they please, so the same ones aren't there every time I go to feed them. I THINK I know which ones they were, but I won't be sure until I get some more info.

Carl is still there, right? He's my favorite! Although the rough looking leopard one and Marshmallow are gorgeous as well!
Also, the third pic from the top looks EXACTLY like the first cat I ever had, size, look, the whole package. He ran away in October 2001 on a rainy night. We never saw him again. If you lived in Michigan, I'd swear it was him. He'd be super old now anyway.
Carl is still there! (He's my favorite, too!)
He actually recognizes my car now, so he runs to greet me when I get there. He knows I have the wet food, which he loves. Plus I've been taking them turkey hot dogs, too, as a treat.

It stinks that someone messed with the kitties! I'm sure they were trying to help (obviously), but still a bummer. The sign sounds like a great idea.
They are SO stinkin' cute! I love the one that looks like a leopard.

Is the shelter at least no-kill?
I know nothing really about feral colonies... I always thought feral meant they weren't socialized. Some of these seems to come to you, climb in your lap, and be petted - are they still considered feral?
Most of the cats down there are feral. As in, won't come near you, won't go eat until you walk away after feeding them, can't get near them.
But there is a small group of them that are not feral. I've been told they were dumped down there fairly recently, they weren't born there. So basically it's like a family of house cats living with a colony of ferals. lol

I honestly don't know enough to have an opinion one way or the other, but if she picked up two super friendly house cats that could be adopted into a home, I'm not sure it's so bad that she did that?
My main concern was that they went to AC before they got to the humane society and I don't want anyone else calling animal control. I'm really concerned that people are going to start complaining about them and we won't be able to release them back where they were. Even though there are no houses in the area, so no one should really be bothered by it.
My main frustration re: these specific cats being picked up is that I had to track them down, make sure they weren't at AC, make sure they were okay, etc., which created more work for me, which I don't have time for. lol
I can't get an accurate count of how many need to be trapped/fixed if people go down there and pick them up and do whatever with them.
