Who has registered a car in VA recently?

How much did it cost you? I'd be moving from MD (I used to live in VA awhile back).

I already know the other differences (inspection every year, car tax, etc.)

It depends on what type of vehicle you have...Hopefully this will help at least give you an idea of what it will cost to register yous.

Does anyone know is the 3% tax listed on the website is a one time tax when you register the car, or does that refer to the car tax?

it has been a few years for me BUT I had lived in MD before moving to VA and had recently bought a car in MD. Since it had been less than a year, I did not have to pay the initial tax to VA because I could prove I had paid tax within 365 days of moving to VA. Does that make sense?? Otherwise, I would have had to pay the 3% upon registering.

Oh this is good. I just bought a car in October 2011.

SO just registered his car from Alabama in March 2011...so I guess he is SOL since he bought it in 2007.

Did he pay tax to MD when he registered it from Alabama? If so, he might not have to pay it again. It is worth asking.
