Naps for a 3 years old and preschool...

My daugther is 2.5 and is still a great napper.  She goes to preschool 3 mornings a week and naps in the afternoon around 1 to 3 (on average).  I am signing her up for school next year and love the idea of afternoon class so we are not rushing out the door in the morning but I really don't want to interfere with her nap.  A lot of the other moms I have talked to said that their child stopped napping by around 3 years old anyway so it wouldn't matter.  Bottom line is that i would choose mornings if she still napped but would much prefer afternoons if she gave up napping on her own. Not sure which one to sign-up for!  What age did your child stop napping?  Thanks and sorry for the long-winded post ;)

  • My daughter is just now getting ready to give up napping. She was doing a solid 2 hours until she was 4 and now it's slowly changing.

  • My son is 3 1/2 and still naps 3 -4  hrs a day with no signs (I hope) of giving it up anytime soon. If it were my kid I'd do the morning classes. Yes a  lot of kids give up their naps by 3 but if yours is a great napper still, I wouldn't risk her being miserable at school bc she needs a nap and isn't getting one. HTH- G
  • Thanks so much guys! My daugther seems to still really need her nap so I have a hard time imagining her happily giving it up.  Seems like morning class is the way to go.  I hope she continues her daily naps - I like that time for me too :)

  • Paige turned 3 in December... the days she naps she won't go to bed. The days she doesn't nap she is out by 8:45. We still *need* the nap every few days, but not everyday.

  • My kid napped every day at school until  he started kindergarten this year. Now he doesn't nap during the week but will still often pass out on the couch on the weekend. What can't say, the boy loves his sleep!

  • My 5YO napped daily until well after he turned 4 - he still naps almost every day at daycare but never at home anymore.

  • Laura goes to preschool 5 days a week - full days.  She naps every day at school, about 2 hours.  She refuses to nap at home, but will doze off if we are in the car.

  • Drew turned 3 in late October and still naps at least 2 hours a day. He goes to school M-W-F from 930-130 and naps from 2-430pm. He is even more tired on school days. He goes to bed at 830pm. He has skipped his nap one or both weekend days in the last 2 weeks and then is sound asleep by 715pm. I say do the morning class.

  • Maya started giving up naps not long after she turned 3.  By the time Zach was born and Maya was 3.5, she rarely took them.  That fall, she started going to school 3 days a week, 9:30-2:30, and she did just fine without the naps.

  • My 3.5 year old still naps daily.  He's gone a handful of times without a nap and then it's an earlier than normal bedtime with some crabbiness. We can definitely push a nap until 2, but I wouldn't do it every day.

  • Bella is almost 3 1/2 and still naps.  She goes to school 3 mornings a week until 11:30, then naps from 12:30 or so until 3 (sometimes she's up earlier).

I signed her up for full day starting in September (5 days)...I'm just assuming the nap won't exist by then :)
