Winter poll

What do you think of this year's warmer winter? Love? Hate? Is anyone's answer based solely on the number of "snow day" school/federal closures?

Re: Winter poll

  • im not a fan of winter and commute by bus so i MUCH prefer this.

and no my answer is not based on snow days since i don't get any (unless we get an all out blizzard)

  • Hate.

I'm not a fan of warm weather.  I'm not saying I need a huge snow-filled winter (though one good snow would be nice), I just want cold temps.  I look forward to fall and winter every year, and both have been really disappointing IMO.  I feel like the warm temps just don't want to quit.  Also, this back and forth between 40s and 60s+ is making me feel like I'm always coming down with a cold or something.  Not cool.

  • Hate it. I miss snow, and not just because it means a possible day off work. I'm from Boston, and this is not winter.
  • I love it in terms of winter weather but it makes me fear what summer will look like.
  • I love the warmer winter, although if it would stay one temperature for more than a day or so I'd be ever so grateful.

  • I'm not a fan of the oscillation between warm and cold.  Just when I get used to bundling up, I end up overheated wearing warm clothes when it's 60+ degrees, or I'm freezing because I'm finally used to the warmth.

I'd rather just get winter over with at this point, rather than get my hopes up for spring every few days and be driven back to my scarf and gloves.

  • Big fat dislike.  I want snow and winter back.  Snow days are just an added bonus.

  • I love this warmer weather although I wish we would have at least one big snowstorm just for fun.  It's so nice being able to get outside every weekend with the kids.  Keeps me sane.
  • I am in love with this winter. It's been perfect. I like cooler temps, but I prefer it to be in the 40s and 50s, which is basically what it's been like this winter. I hate having to bundle up in multiple layers and still feel like I'm freezing my a$$ off.

This must be the normal winter climate somewhere (maybe North Carolina) and now I'm jealous of them.

  • I'm a big fan of the warmer winter. I walk to and from the Metro (about 0.7m each way) and I appreciate not being a popsicle by the time I get to EFC or home. Even if I am super bundled up, I get cold very very easily.

I just hope this doesn't mean we are going to get blasted by a huge storm in February.

  • I'm torn on it. I would like some snow, but snow can be a PITA.

Ultimately, I'm not loving this wimpy winter. But I'm looking on the bright side and enjoying the ease of training for my half marathon outside as opposed to on a treadmill.

another new englander here. and ditto MPD, i am very, very afraid for summer. DC summers and i are already on bad terms and now i'm afraid this mild winter will just make it worse.

    Ditto this.

I am absolutely LOVING this weather.  I'm not sure that I've experienced a "normal" DC winter yet - from Snowpocolypse to this - I don't think I have any idea what winter is even supposed to be like around here.

I'd be glad to never see snow or ice again as long as I live Yes

  • I like it b/c it means Sprout can still play outside & not freeze.

However, I do hope that we get a week of hard freezes to kill off some bugs.  Otherwise, I'm afraid about the bug situation this summer!

  • I am not a fan of it. I love the cold weather, and hate the warm. I also love taking a day or weekend trip to go skiing semi-locally, and the conditions have been terrible. There was just a bunch of ice and slush because it is too warm for even the man made snow to stick around.

I am also not looking forward to the suimmer...

Yeah, this too. Especially since I'll be at the height of pregnancy then. Ugh. I hate summers here under the best of circumstances.

Also, I cute super cute, great new winter boots that I've been unable to wear so far.

  • i'm not saying i want snowpocalypse because i certainly don't. but given that DH & i have been sick four times in two months between us, this weather is not cool.

  • I love it! Today is my birthday and the temp is.going to be 50- 60- strange but I like it!

  • I'm not a fan at all.  I enjoy eash season for what it is and what it is supposed to be.  On top of that my discount pass to the ski area is getting little use, and I love skiing soo much!  I look forward to this all fall!  Boo! Warm weather!  I can wait for you to come in spring, when you are supposed to be here!

And ditto on the different temperature every day!  I stand in front ofmy coat closet every morning trying to decide what I need to wear!

  • I have been loving it.  Any snow makes me dread my commute and after the Thundersnow last year I think I might have a breakdown if that ever happens again with my kids in the car.  I would welcome snow on the weekend so my kids could actually play in it but then it needs to get warm again by Monday so the roads are OK :-)
  • I really, really wanted a big snowstorm this winter, but now that it's almost February, I'm over it. I'm ready for spring. I agree that this winter has been a nice balance of cold and mild, but it does make me fear for the summer.

I also don't want it to snow now because we're putting our house on the market this week and I don't want anything to impede the throngs of potential buyers that will be flocking to our listing!

  • I hate this winter.  I have to go to work regardless of the weather - unless it's an emergency travel only type thing - in which case I don't have to go. So, not having to work has nothing to do with it.

I love snow. I love how peaceful it is, how pretty it is. My dogs love to romp around in it. I love to romp around in it with them.  I will sit at stare out the window and watch it snow for as long as possible.

We're going to Toronto next week in hopes to see some snow.  Fact:  I planned this vacation for that sole purpose.

  • I'm actually indifferent - I wish we would have had a few more snowfalls but I'm enjoying the mild weather.

I don't get "snow days"... since I telecomute I basically have to work everyday.

  • I have neutral feelings about this winter. I'm enjoying the warmth, but it'd be nice to see a little snow, just to have a few delays or snow days (though I really doubt the latter will happen this season). It does make me wonder how this will affect the cherry blossoms... I'm assuming they'll be early this year due to the mild temps.
  • I'm torn.

We were planning to go tubing on Monday, but now I'm just using it as a mental health/Super Bowl recovery day. I don't think man-made snow will be any good. I also love the tranquility of snow and romping around in it with Scout, but then again, my company never ever closes or releases early for snow, and it just leaves me bitter or stranded. (I'm all for a weekend storm!)

On the other hand, I have been able to take walks at lunch. Is it too early to start pinning Easter ideas on pinterest? Stick out tongue

  • i strongly dislike the dead cold of winter. it's something i've worked on in therapy and have previously suffered a little SAD. the warmer weather this year has made me a markedly happier person. if it didn't mean leaving our support system (our families are both here), we would move south.

  • I like it. I'm in favor of any day DS can play outside.

I don't see the point of snow in a place that can't manage it well - in the best case it just fouls up traffic and commuting; in the worst case it can cause fatalities. It would be one thing if we had snow often enough to warrant proper equipment and road treatment, but we don't, so every time we get more than a sprinkle it's a giant headache.

Same with me and the SAD. I haven't really thought it about that way, but I've been so much happier this winter and think it's because of the warmer weather.

I didn't even think of this.  Oh no.  I'm nervous about this summer too.
