So, can I still post here?

It looks like we will be relocating to central Jersey this spring.  DH is in training this week, will be out on FMLA for the rest of February and then will be formally requesting a transfer to his company's New Jersey office when he returns to the office.

After searching the real estate market here in Westchester/southern Putnam for two years now, we are just done.  The only houses we are finding in our price range need major renovations (which we don't want to take on), are on crappy land or in less than desirable school districts.  And don't get me started on the taxes.  We toyed with moving up to OC but, if DH decides to change companies in the future there is nothing up that that would be a good career move for him.  In Jersey, if he ends up making a move, there will be far more options. Also, this move will allow me to easily be a SAHM.

So, it looks like we'll be off to the dirty Jerz soon.  Will I still be welcome here?

(Also...please keep this off FB since we haven't told everyone yet)

  • This will be great for you guys! How exciting! Of course you can still post here silly. I've actually considered posting on the NJ board. I live on the border (literally) of NY and NJ and most of the things I do and places I frequent are in NJ. In fact, a lot of preschools I'm looking at are in NJ.

    Good luck!

we live in rockland and my kids' daycare is in nj.

  • That's so exciting!  And you better still post here!  Hey, I live in NJ already but post here haha!  Two of N's friends live down in Edison/Metuchen.  Do you know what area you're going to look at?
  • you better still post here!!!!!!!

GL with the house search and the move. Its sad how expensive things are that people are being pushed out of the area.  Jay and I decided to stay put in Orange County because we couldn't afford anything south so it makes our commutes longer

  • Good luck with the house search!! Xo

  • While we will certainly miss you being close to us this sounds like a great oppportunity for your DH.  (and of course I'm jealous that you get to be a SAHM).  You are such an organized person that you will have the move done in record time ;)

You'll always be a HV Nestie!!

  • Good luck with your house hunting.  We'll miss you around here, but you should definitely stick around the board!

  • We would be mad if you didn't still post here!  :)

Congratulations to you and DH...and good luck!  I agree that taxes are just ridiculous and that has slowed us in finding a home; however we have other reasons that we need to stay where we are.  You are so organized you will be great in the move!!!!!!

  • DH and I have considered many times moving to central Jersey. If we could find jobs down that way, we'd be out of here in a heartbeat. We know we will never be able to afford the type of home we'd like with the amount of property we'd want. The taxes alone would kill us.

DH is from central Jersey and 98% of our family and friends we spend time with are there. What towns are you looking in? Good luck with your housing search, and please continue to post!

  • Sounds like it will be a good move!  We actually were going to try to move that way two years ago (dh works in NJ) but we weren't able to sell our condo and I got pg so we put it on hold.  But there's a very good chance we'll also end up down there eventually!

  • As if you could actually get rid of me anyway ;-)

We are looking around the Hamilton area (although not in Hamilton itself).  Some of my family lives just west of there and DH's best friend and his family live just east of there so, although that's not the reason for moving it will be nice that we won't be completely isolated.

**Of course, if anyone has any input I'm listening!**

The differences in real estate prices and taxes from here to there are INSANE. For the amount we pay here for our teeny 2 BR/1 BA condo now, we can have a 5 BR/3 BA 15 year old home on an acre of land in the area we are looking.  So, yeah. I love the HV and will miss so much about living here but, it's such a reality check knowing what else is out there and the difference in quality of life elsewhere.
