What a piece of work!

It never ceases to amaze me that someone will say something insulting and than actually have the nerve to get all butt hurt when someone does get insulted.

I had brunch this morning with a former coworker and friend and another former coworker happened to be there.  This particular person I never liked, they are one of those people who thinks they know everything about everything and just say whatever comes into their head and then gets upset if you tell them they are being rude or insulting. She has also been known to throw a tantrum if you don?t take what she says like it?s the gospel truth.

Well, I?m polite to her when she comes over, but then she gets right in my daughters face, pinches her cheek hard enough that DD whined a little, before she pulled back frowning and telling me she thought she would have been cuter, and that she really wasn?t a very attractive baby. Excuse me?! Screw you, ugly old spinster woman! So I push her back from the table and tell her what a stupid thing to say and asked if she actually thought about the words that came out of her mouth or if she just let them spew forth like a toddler who doesn?t know what?s ok to say and what isn?t yet. My friend tagged on that my daughter was adorable thank you very much.

I know every mother thinks their child is adorable, I'm no exception, but really even if you didn't think a baby was cute, why would you be stupid enough to actually tell the parent that? Does that not seem like you are just asking to have your ass kicked?

Then crazy old b!tch gets upset and storms off complaining about how rude we were, and how she was just talking to us. Considering I didn?t beat the crap out of her, I don?t see why she has much reason to complain. It just never ceases to amaze me that someone would ever think something like that would be ok to say and then actually have the nerve to get upset that someone took that insulting instead of apologizing like a sane person.

  • Ugly old spinster woman? Well at least you can give as good as you get I guess.
  • So, she can be rude to you and it's just "talking" to you, but if you dare push back, YOU are the rude one?  Oy.  She sounds like a peach.

And yeah... I don't care how "not cute" you may think a baby is, you DON'T EVER SAY THAT TO A MOM!!!!!

That was thought, not said out loud. Even though she totally is a ugly old spinster woman. I like to think I have more class than to resort to saying something like that to her face.

  • You should have pinched her cheek and told her that you are sure her parents had even a bigger disappointment with her as their child. Good for you for not letting her get away with that insane rude behavior.

eta: did NOT mean to imply you were disappointed with your baby, but her folks being horrified they were stuck with her.

What did you say to her?

What is your definition of spinster?

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns

    1) It drives me insane when folks just think they can walk up to someone's kid & start putting their hands on them. Talk? Sure. Make funny faces? Ok. Hands off unless you at least have a mind to ask. I had a lady at church take Abby from my arms in one fell swoop. I had to ask for my own child back. I repeat, hands off people!

2.) Never insult someone's kid. WTF???!!

  • I just asked why she thought that was acceptable to say and if she had any thought process filter or if things just spewed out of her mouth like a toddler who didn't know better yet.

My definition of Spinster is the traditional version, an older (She is in her 60s), childless, unmarried woman.

I think that what she did was rude and wrong. I do. I also think that maybe you could have handled the situation with a little more grace. Take the high road or something.

I find myself wondering why you find "spinster" to be such an insult. What's wrong with being unmarried or childless? Or older?

  • She sounds like she has a mental problem.  Seriously.

I would guess that probably too many people have handled this woman with "grace".  Perhaps next time, she'll keep her opinion to herself on some other child's aesthetic value.

I personally love my Aunt's way of doing it.  If it's a cute baby, she'll say "ooooh look at the cute baby!"  If it's a less than cute baby, she'll say "ooooh look at the baby!"

I KNOW I don't and can't imagine the vile things that would've come out of my mouth.  And after you piss me off... I will manage to find the one thing in the world that you're the most self-conscious about and THAT is what I will zero in on.  I don't around.

I can't say that I know what I would do in this situation. Stopping to think before I talk is something that I'm actually working on myself. I've said a lot of things that I've regretted later. Responding to insults with insults just puts the two of you at the same level, IMO.
