Any ideas of where to shop for an area rug that is not standard size? We're looking for a rug that is 6x8 or 7x8 and I'm a bit stumped and overwhelmed with searching for one. I'm sure I can find something online, but I'm the type that needs to see and feel it in person.
Any suggestions for stores?

I love our Flor rugs. http://www.flor.com/ They're squares that you can mix and match and they stick together with dots on the bottom. You can also cut the squares if you want to. They have all the color samples at Natural Built Home Store in Minneapolis or you can order samples from the Flor website.
They're awesome for pet owners, and I would assume kids. When my dog pukes, we just pull up that square and hose it off outside or in the laundry room and let it dry.

I will second this. This might be your best bet if you're looking for a unique size. We have a Flor "rug" in our office that's a 5x5 tile checkerboard pattern. We love it!
These suggestions are great. I hadn't thought of most of these, particularly the Flor tiles and getting remnant bound into a rug. Thanks ladies!
Kiz-Oh my goodness! I totally forgot to send you pictures.
It's completed other than all the little things we still need to finish (like painting doors, hanging art on the walls, making a headboard). We'll get it done eventually. It's wonderful and we used your ideas. I'll email you some pics. We also refinished and installed hardwood floors on our entire main level. It's like a different house!
ETA: I just sent you an email with a link to facebook pics. Hope it works.
It worked! I love love love everything you did. Beautiful!
You could try Dock 86, although I didn't find their prices to be great. Also, Royal Star Liquidators in South St. Paul.
