Randoms- Add your own

I have asked this before but does anyone else get insomnia when they PMS or have a period?  My normal insomnia "cures" don't work during this time.  I do plan to talk to my doctor.

My bff is married to a douchecanoe.  I know it is her decision.  I don't understand staying with a liar who has cheated multiple times!  The "keep getting tested for STDs convo" is getting old.  I realize I can do nothing about this and SHE LUVS HIM!

If and when it is slow in here I will add douchecanoe details.

Re: Randoms- Add your own

  • The guy in the office on the other side of my wall is clearly sick.  He is clearing his throat repeatedly, loudly and wetly.  It's making me annoyed and slightly nauseous.

I finally made the switch to vegetarian this week.  I've never been a die hard fan of meat and last weekend when I was browning some ground beef for dinner all I could think was, "I don't really even want to eat that, and it smells kind of gross."  So far I don't miss it.  There are still some things I plan to eat like turkey on Thanksgiving or the clam chowder from the restaurant near my family's house on Cape Cod... but for the most part I feel like this is going to make me enjoy what I'm eating a lot more.

I'm starting to get the baby bug.  The problem is, I'm also planning on going to graduate school starting this fall (if I get in) and we need to move out of our apartment and in to something bigger, which we're in no position to do.  We agreed to start trying at 30, which is still 3 years away.  Part of me is glad I have 3 years and part of me doesn't want to wait.  I'm still probably too frightened of the whole idea to be emotionally and mentally prepared.

Throat clearing is my absolutely most loathed trait.  Everyone has to listen to you and it's just rude.  If you can't keep it under control (and by under control, I mean you do it less than once a hour) go to a freaking doctor and leave everyone else in peace.  I pack up my stuff and work in different rooms to get away from it.  Don't get me started on some other throat issues that occur at work...

My husband and I have a lot of plans, but mostly I feel stuck right now.  I'm also not sure how kids will fit into those plans.  I've gotten to the point of thinking "oh, I'm done making plans.  We have goals - wherever the chips fall and whenever we end up pregnant, so be it."

  • I found a job somewheree to apply to...it sounds wondeful and they'd have to probably double what they'd consider paying me in order for me to uproot my family and move 5 hours away (w/ the Mr. having to quit his job too...)

     Gonna apply anyhow, this weekend.

Work is overwhelming.  Why is it that math people can't do math?  and that detail oriented engineers (who work in industry and do purchase orders and stuff all the time) who rail about how the kids we work with should understand how to document what they do in a build can't get purchase orders for stuff they have to order for ME right?

  • This is one of those weeks I am so burned out, discouraged and flat-out ANGRY at work. And my review is on Friday morning at 8:30. I am so tired of wishing away the more than 1/3 of my life I spend at work but still no luck with my other applications. Argh.

In the next few weeks I am planning to attend back to back morning yoga classes on two Sundays, a 6am yoga class one Mon. and one Fri., and consistently wake up 30 min. to 1 hr. earlier every morning. I know I will feel like death but I really need to change my wake-up schedule so this is good motivation.

The constant whispering in our female mgr.'s office is driving me batshiit insane. She is completely incompetent and spends half the time being nasty to people on the phone and the other half whispering with women from the other dept. Usually about each other, or about the rest of us. With the door open so we can hear her. WTF.

  • I work for a company that designs and manufactures medical carts.  This afternoon I'm going to a nearby hospital to "model" for some promotional shots (video and still).  I was a nurse last time, but this time I'll be a patient.  I know I was only selected because I'm the youngest woman here by 4 years, and I'm one of like 3 people at this company who exercises more than walking to the break room, but it's still kind of fun/exciting.

My H started Cross Fit today.  He doesn't exercise.  He's 6' and 155 pounds; he's very strong and flexbile (he kicks my ass at yoga), but the man never exercises.  I'm excited for him and hope he enjoys it.

We might be moving.  Again.  I grew up in Baltimore, MD.  Left in 2007 for a job in CA.  Left there in 2009 for job stuff here in Ohio.  Now my H is up for a big promotion (it's his to take...we just have to decide if we want to move), and it involves either a move back to CA or to Europe (I'm hoping Spain, if we can finagle it).  It's exciting to think about, but also really daunting.

Also, fein...yay for vegetarianism!  The smell of ground beef is the WORST.  I went veg while working at Outback Steakhouse.  I'll tell the whole story if anyone cares.  But another aspect of going veg was looking at a burger one day and saying, "this could be like 100 cows all ground up together.  GROSS.

  • Interro - I really hope you find something else soon.  There is absolutely nothing worse than being in a job you hate.  All those people who are saying, "In this economy you should just be glad you have a job" are flat out WRONG.  There are better things out there and things are picking up.  Here's hoping you hear back soon and get that 1/3 of your life back!

Katies - MH is the same way.  He never ever works out but his arms are ridiculous.  He does a lot of manual stuff at work, but he's not a construction worker or anything.  He does marketing for and electronics place, so he's seriously lifting flat screens once a week and still strong.  Makes no sense.

BTW, do you mind if I hit you up for veggie recipes from time to time?  I'm good for this week but I know I'm going to hit a wall eventually without old faithful chicken to fall back on.

  • Thanks, fein!! I hope so too. Around here it's very difficult to find work that isn't a temp receptionist position (huge pay cut) or in the medical field (which I'd need school for). It's super frustrating but I know eventually something will turn up!!

Of course!  There's a "recipes" tag on my blog.  Also, there is a lot of vegetarian chicken.  If you're not in the mood for something breaded (like nuggets), you can try Gardein scallopini or Quorn cutlets.  Or just substitute tofu.  Cut it into bits and bake it so it gets that chewier, chickeny texture.  Or slice it into thick slabs, season, grill, and put it on a sandwich.

  • I got H into Harry Potter and it makes me so happy.  He enjoys the movies, but was really on-the-fence about reading the books.  And I get it, although the movies look awesome... the covers of the books kind of make it look like kiddie stuff.  I'm currently reading (well, just finished last night) Goblet of Fire for my challenge and H had finished all his reading material he had so I talked him into reading The Sorcerer's Stone.

    And he LOOOOOOOVES it!

Can you convince my H to read it too?

  • It's gorgeous here today (70), but that doesn't mean we need the air conditioning.  I'm sitting here shivering at my desk.

I enjoy glancing at the Connect with These Online Nesties bar over to the right.  Most of the SNs are incredibly generic, but occasionally a funny or WTF? one pops up.  I'm imagining that PrayThenWait is on the S&R board.

My company laid off a bunch of high-up people over the past 2 weeks (it was a mess - someone leaked internal memos to the press).  Last night we had a pizza-and-soda meeting with one of the big bosses so he could explain the rationale and impacts.  The layoffs are over and will not extend into the "worker-bee" core, so my job is not on the line here.  I still might amp up my networking skillz though.

    This is my siggy.
  • My 11 year-old daughter heard the phrase "banana hammock" on TV last week - I think it was on Friends - and has been saying it (followed by giggles) constantly since.  I know she'll be wicked embarassed when I tell her what it means and am hoping she'll just get bored with it and stop saying it.

That is really funny!  How old is your daughter?
