What do you think of this?

My neighbors across the street are a nice family, wife is a SAHM (as am I) and I see her in and out of the house all day, driving the kids, blah blah.

Recently, since the start of the year or so, the house has been silent. No cars in and out, never once had the garbage or recycle been brought out. I dont think they moved b/c there's still some stuff outside that's theirs. I cant imagine they'd go on vacation for over a month with two kids in school. Last night there was a bright spotlight on in one room and then was out before I went to bed.

Not trying to be 'Rear Window' on them, but don't you think that's weird? MH is starting to agree with me now too. I only know their first names and never really even met them other than waves. Would you do anything or am I crazy?

Re: What do you think of this?

  • Maybe they bought a house without selling theirs and are about to put it on the market??  That is definitely weird though!!!

  • It might be a family emergancy that's kept them from home? I hope everything is ok with them.
  • The light could be on a timer? Do you know if they have relatives overseas? Our friends go away for a month+ to Poland to visit their close family with two young kids, but I know that isn't all too common. Is their mail box busting? Chances are they put a hold on their mail and that would show that it was planned.
  • It's odd if it's outside their normal patterns, but don't know what you'd 'do.' they could be gone for any one of 100 reasons. When we were in out apartment the family nex door would be gone for months at a time, and they had a school-aged child.

  • What exactly could you do?

Our neighbors had school aged kids. They sort of just up and left one day. We didn't see them for months. They did come back one day, packed up their stuff. We saw them outside and they said they moved to TN. This was in June. No for sale signs went up until around September. The house is now in short sale. It was all very weird.

good point re the mail. Ask your mailman - ours is the neighborhood gossip, he knows every time someone farts.our neighbor goes to Florida for months at a time and the first time she went I did ask him about her because she's elderly and he said that she leaves every year and has the mail held and her sons go get it at the post office.

  • If the mail is piling up and/or the newspapers are piling up, you can call the police and they'll do a welfare check.

But if the mail isn't piling up, chances are its a planned vacation and/or a move.
