Little Girl Hair-- ugh!

I'm really looking to commiserate rather than get advice-- but does anyone's daughter fight with them about combing her hair?  Norah is a beast about it.  She has fine hair with waves at the bottom and it tangles easily, so I honestly can't blame her.

But, I am so gentle.  To top it off- even though she hates getting her hair done, she loves the finished product when I put it into pony tails.  So if I don't do her hair, she's mad!  Oy.  Two is fun.

Re: Little Girl Hair-- ugh!

  • Yup.  I've bribed to her to sit down so I comb her hair.  Now I just tell her if she lets me comb her hair we can make princess hair.  ( Basically anything with a bow in)  Then she is so happy with the finished product!

  • Same here and Bella is 4.5!!! Her hair is so fine and the tangles are ridiculous. I used a detangler and it does help. Thing is, I can't put too much product in her hair because then it looks like a greasy mess!!
  • Neither one of mine had a problem but maybe if you let her pick out some new hair ties she will let you put them in?  Then show her int he mirror how pretty she looks?

  • Yup - it's all about how you spin it in this house.  We do "Princess Hair", "Kai Lan hair", "Rapunzel braids"...  the list goes on and on.

I'm partial to the Loreal detangler instead of the Suave.  It doesn't leave her looking too greasy (if I'm careful to only use it on the ends) and it seems to detangle better.

  • Stephanie is almost 5 and still fights me tooth and nail when I try to comb/brush her hair.  I usually have to offer bribes as well like a cookie after she eats her breakfast or getting to play Angry Birds on my I-phone.  I am waiting for the magical age that she will no longer be a pain in the ass. • I obviously don't have that problem with my daughter (she has alopecia) but there is a brush called knot genie that a lot of people have recommended and swear by it.
  • My mom works at a beauty salon and gave me this brush for my DD's hair. It is awesome for brushing wet or dry (I even use it after I wash my hair if it seems knotty still). This will be easier than bribing them to sit through combing.

  • Thanks for the tips, gals!  She loves having her hair in ponies, so I do try to use that "you'll look so cute" angle, but doesn't keep her from bawling.  I will try a new detangler and that brush!   I think the detangler I have is J and J-- it does make her look greasy.

Oh man.  I shouldn't complain, then, lol.  I have bone straight hair and so does Norah.  There has to be a good product for curly hair out there!

  • She fights me about combing it and forget trying to put any sort of hair ornament in her hair. This is why we keep it short!
