tax ladies

I got another W2 from work for the time I was out on STD. It was only for like 300.I was not expecting it so I had already filed my taxes. We are getting a refund but with the new w2 - it should probably be less than what we are to get. What do I do? Do I just file an amended return after we get our refund? Will I get in trouble if they are processing our stuff and somehow find out about that w2 that we didn't report?

Re: tax ladies

  • You need to file an amended return. I'd actually call the IRS and see what they recommend you do since your filing probably hasn't been processed yet. Be proactive about resolving it. We had something happen a few years ago that was similar and we had to file some additional unclaimed income form and then write them a check to cover the tax and penalties we incurred (it wound up being something like $180 on $900 or so in income we neglected to report). If you go to them it'll be much more pleasant than the nasty gram you're going to get from them (which is what we got since my husband kind of tossed the W2 to the side not realizing what it was so it looked like we were trying to get out of claiming income).
