Rec your deoderizing dog shampoo!

We are in need of a new type of shampoo for our golden. I am looking for an all purpose (cleaning, conditioning, deoderizing) shampoo because the fruity frilly smelling ones we've been buying just aren't cutting it! He still stinks afterwards :(

Has anyone tried the natures miracle line of shampoos?

Re: Rec your deoderizing dog shampoo!

  • If he's stinking shortly after baths it could indicate a health/nutrition problem. It could also be that his coat isn't drying completely, allowing mildew to form. Just a thought.

I use Crazy Dog shampoo in Rainforest because I l-o-v-e the smell.

  • We use this on our Scottie -http://www.davismfg.com/store/product/honey-almond-shampoo-12-oz/ He has to be bathed weekly due to my husband's allergies and this is gentle, but still very good. We purchase it through our groomer, who uses it on all of the dogs she grooms.

But covering up the smell won't help much if there's another problem. What do you feed him? How do you dry him after a bath? Both food and mildew could be problems, like the pp said. Or he could just be a smelly dog - like people, dogs can have their own unique smell.

  • My favorite shampoo (and I've tried several lines) is Isle of Dogs, Coature line.  You dilute it and it cleans so well.

He eats TOTW, we towel dry him and let him air dry the rest of the way. Since he's a retriever he's pretty much impossible to keep wet. It's definitely not a mildew smell. I think he's just a stinky dog in general, but I think a better shampoo might help prolong the effects of a bath. I just don't want something that will dry out his coat and skin, and I want a shampoo that actually deoderizes rather than using a perfume to cover the smell.

    Thanks for the recs!
