DIY Tshirts for toddlers?

Hi everyone,

I would like to make tshirts for my toddlers for valetines day and birthdays but I have not been able to find plain tshirts in their size that does not have pockets. I looked at Michaels and the smallest size they carry is size 4. I need size 24 months. Anyone know who sells these?

So far I bought Garanimals tshirts but they have pockets, I will use them if I cant find anything else but I think the pocket will get in the way of the design/saying.

I don't want to spend a lot for them either and I wanted colors not plain white.

Thanks for any help!

Re: DIY Tshirts for toddlers?

  • Try Target...I got solid white tees without pockets. They were actually on clearance for 1.50 earlier this week. Ive been looking for cute Valentines DIY shirts, what are you planning on doing?

  • I plan on doing an iron on transfer and designing it on the computer.

  • You could just remove the pocket with a seam ripper. I have done that before, it is so hard to find shirts with out pockets!

  • Take a seam ripper and gently yank that pocket off. I do it all the time- I'm a shirt pocket hater. They come off super easily and you'd NEVER know it once the shirt is washed and dried.

My Target does have some plain pocketless tees for boys- but, they were out of any girls' plain tees in the toddler sizes. I'm going to make her a t-shirt dress, instead, but, it would have saved me a little time just to do a tee. :)

  • Take the pockets off! Use a steady hand and a seam ripper. Start at one corner on top, then as the pocket starts coming off, you can do it easier between the pocket and the shirt. Toss it in the wash and the holes will be gone.

  • Thanks! It never occured to me that I could take the pockets off. I am afraid I will ruin the shirt but maybe I will give it a try.

  • Hobby Lobby might have them, I know they have plain t-shirts in kids sizes now.

  • The garanimals are really soft.  I took a pocket of one of those for my sons first bday shirt, and it worked perfectly.
