Updated with ?...Out of food...what can I feed tonight?

So I was hoping that Magic's food would last until tomorrow but I gave the last of it this morning. I don't have time to get to the specific store that sells his food (Chicken Soup). Is there anything I can feed him tonight? Thanks

ETA: So I'm thinking I'll do about 1/2 cup of brown rice, 1/2 pound of cooked ground chicken, a couple steamed carrots thrown in. What about adding a scrambled egg to that? Or would that be too much? Thanks again!

  • The once in a while we run out on our pooch I boil her a chicken breast, some carrots and a small amount of brown rice. Similar to what I'd do for her if her stomach was bothering her but more meat in the ratio then normal.

She likes it better then her normal kibble :)

    Ditto!

And you can have chicken and rice for dinner, too! Just a better "people"  friendly version!

  • Not that it matters a whole lot, but is Magic a cat or a dog?  Like pp, either way I would boil some chicken.  If it was my dog I would add some rice or oatmeal.  If you don't have chicken, I'd think any meat would do (though be careful with some fish).

I don't have any chicken breasts but I have some ground chicken that I can thaw...could I just cook that up plain?

    He's a dog.

  • Ditto chicken and rice; ground beef or turkey would work well too. You can also add some vegetables if you want; Dexter likes broccoli and green beans so I would probably add one of those, or maybe some boiled sweet potato.

Ground chicken would be fine too, as long as chicken agrees with his digestive system.

  • He's had cooked chicken before and loves it! How much should I give him though? I'll cook the ground chicken and add some brown rice and maybe a couple of carrots. Thanks again!
  • Oh yeah carrots are good too; you can probably steam them right in with the rice. I'm not sure about quantity; the only time I give Dexter this meal is when he either has or is recovering from a tummy issue, so it's generally doesn't have a big appetite anyway.  In your situation, I would probably look up the caloric and protein content of his food and try to match that. If you make too much you can always incorporate it into his meals for the next day or two.

  • Glad to know I'm not the only one this has happened to! :) We've done chicken and rice, too, as pps recommended.

Egg would be great - you can even use it raw; I've heard it's better for them (I don't have factual backup on that though).  I don't know about your other quantities because I don't know how much you normally feed your dog.

But it's just one meal; you really don't need all those different foods.  They're all nutritious, and I'm sure your dog will love any combination.

  • Thanks. I ended up just giving him the chicken, rice and carrots. He picked around the carrots though the turd Wink

A ha ha ha!  That is so something Dexter would do. Glad he ate well tonight anyway!
