How much $$ to move the electric/gas meter outside?
Ours is in the basement so as a result, we're never home for readings. Every once in a while (like twice each year) we remember to call it in. Today I got a letter saying that's no longer allowed. So has anyone had theirs moved? How much was it? TIA.
Re: How much $$ to move the electric/gas meter outside?
And I misread the letter - they require two in-person readings each year and if they get those you can continue to call in. Still. I should just have it moved so its a non-issue going forward.
A few years ago PSE&G put an EZ-Pass like thing on all the meters on our street (they are all in the basement) and they just go down the street and use some zapper to get the reading. Call them and ask them if they can do that in your area. This was years ago so I would think they could.
I don't know about the electric, ours has always been outside.
But before PSE&G put the zapper thing on it I used to put a card with dials on the front door. I'd do the reading and they'd come and read it off the door.
My parents got a similar letter and PSEG came in and put some sort of device on the meter allowing them to get a reading from outside without you having to be home. I don't believe it cost my parents anything.
Both my electric and gas meters are in my basement and are able to be read from the street. No one has ever had to come into my house.
no sh!t. i thought O&R sucked! ;P
My PSE&G guy told me that after a year of no physical readings, they will pay to do the move. But if you want it before then, you pay for it. I said to him "Well, then I'll just stop letting you in" and his response was "yup".
My water company has the zapper though. Guy literally walks through my backyard, points a thing at my basement and keeps going to the neighbors house. Genius!
