I've been laying out the dream master bath that we are planning to add in 5-10 year... It's obviously important that I make all the decisions now
Would you rather have:
1. one big master closet to share
2. 2 closets of similar size, one for each of you
3. 2 closets, one bigger for her and smaller for him
something else I haven't found on pinterst yet?

unless your dh wants more room, then i'd do #2. but i'd find it difficult to share one big ol' closet.
We have separate closets & I love it. We shared a closet in our old house & we have differing view points on how clean a closet should be kept.
Ours are the same size, which I like. His has fewer clothes than mine, but it also has the random stuff like our fire safe. I'd rather just have clothes in mine & if mine was bigger, he'd expect me to keep that random stuff in there.
One big closet!
We had 1 big one at our old house and option 3 at our current house. Like the one big closet better.
One big closet, with a packing table and direct door to the laundry room. And lots of built ins.
We had individual closets in our last house and I like the one big closet much better.

ours will never be near the laundry room. It's on the complete other side of the house. However, I do want the center island for shoes and bags...
We have to have separate closets because i'm too messy for DH
I would only change that our closets connected to the laundry room like PAGAS said but it didnt work with our floorplan.

Sigh our closet is this big and I don't think it's near big enough. 12x15 or 12x20 minimum
1. one big closet
Reason being that if you have 2, you won't be able to encroach on DH's side at all (or it would be inconvenient to you). If there was one large closet, if you run out of room, you dont' have to go to his closet to look through the rest of your stuff. ;-)
My current closet is bigger than Finley's room and /i would like it to be bigger,

We have to add onto the house in order to make a decent closet. I figure if we have to go to so much effort we may as well build as far as the deed restriciton allow. Right now my plan is 10 x 14.
3.
It would actually be my moms.
She took the room that was off their master and turned it into a custom closet. The thing is as big as C's bedroom!!
We have a massive closet. It is only like 10 x 12 with a triangular section cut out of that (these are my guestimates after going and laying on the closet floor knowing I'm 5'2", and I'm horrible with guestimates), but it is 3 hanging bars high all the way around with built in-s in two sections. We can blow up a queen size air mattress in our closet even with one of the bottom racks full of clothes, if that gives some perspective. We did that in preparation for Ike when we thought he'd ride out the storm here. And we have room to grow still, but neither of us are clothes horses.
Sometimes I would like to have separate closets. I like a closet to be organized and tidy. DH will let a huge pile of wire hangers and plastic drycleaning covers build up on his side and then it will encroach on mine. He also couldn't care less about organizing his shirts, and since they are all the same cut and style I love color coding them but he won't keep them in that order. We don't have the same idea about how clean a closet should be and we drive each other crazy.
But it IS fun to pinch his butt several times each morning as we are getting ready, and with separate closets I would miss that opportunity.

We had one big closet in Pearland that we shared. In this house (you've seen it, obviously), we have separate closets. His is smaller ("normal" walk-in closet size) and in the bathroom; mine is in the second bedroom that we connected to our master by knocking down a wall (so we have a huge master). We also knocked out a wall in my closet to make it bigger. Mine's not ginormous, but it is big.
For my birthday this year (May), my mom and DH are going in on a custom closet system for me...California Closets, etc. I.cannot.wait. I need to start planning and brainstorming.
I saw on Pinterest a picture of someone's big closet with the washer and dryer INSIDE. Smartest. Idea. Ever. If I could somehow make that work, you better believe I would. Second best idea is to somehow put a laundry chute in my closet. I actually think we can make that work, just not sure of the logistics.
B, I have also considered an island with storage and a bench so that I can sit down to put on shoes/socks. I need to see if I can figure that out somehow.

oh crap. ya'll are dangerous with all this laundry room-closet-combo talk.....i *just* realized our laundry room shares a wall with my closet......and now i fear i'm going to become obsessed with this expensively unnecessary "home improvement" job.
ya'll are genius.
this - LOL!
I *love* the idea of an adjoining laundry room - brilliant.
I have #2 and love it.
in our last house, we shared and he actually put tape on the bar so that I wouldn't encroach! Yeah... in case you were wondering, it pissed me off.
