So I was researching the vaccine Leptospirosis 4way Annual and it seems to be that this shot is especially for animals that live near wooded areas/wildlife rather than suburbia.
I wanted to ask you ladies if I am correct, that given the area we live (suburb of Pittsburgh without a forest anywhere near us) and in her fenced in yard that no deer, turkey etc that can get into the yard (if there is even any around us), that Lola doesn't really need this shot. I really don't want to give her anything more than she actually needs.
Lola had her Rabies 3 year shot today and I totally forgot to ask the vet if this is really needed.
Re: Vaccination question
I do not vaccinate for lepto, even though I live in an area that does have wildlife around it. Lepto has several serovars and the vaccine only covers some of them so even if you vaccinate, your dog can get lepto so you need to be aware of the symptoms. It also doesn't offer protection for long so you need to vaccinate fairly frequently in order for it to be effective. Finally, lepto is known for causing more vaccine reactions compared to other vaccines so the risk doesn't out weigh the benefit to me, I understand if others make a different decision.
