Re: This is my home town
That's sad, though it looks like a beautiful area. My sister lives in Allentown (which your hometown kind of reminds me of, structurally) and whenever I'm there I think about what a nice town it probably was at one point before it fell in disrepair. Though I'm a bit throw off by the sky being so blue in the photos you posted, it's always freakin grey in Allentown!
When I was a kid it wasn't this way. I remember tons of stores on the back street where the railroad area is. Unfortunately the recession hit the town hard and most places shut down, etc. There are still those who have lived there their entire lives but there's also a new crowd of people who live there. The vibe is a bit different now. People still don't lock their doors at night; kids play outside with no one worrying if they are going to be kidnapped. They just got a cell tower recently and reception is shotty.
I remember going to the Woolworths and getting to pick out a small toy then going to a small restaurant with my grandfather every week. I love being there in the fall! Because this is in a valley, the leaves changing and seeing the mountains are amazing! They have a fall festival to celebrate as well.
The closest McDonalds is 30 minutes away as is the closest WalMart, Kmart, movie theater, etc. The mall is an hour away. It was a culture shock moving here and seeing how close everything is. I love going back and visiting but would never move back because the closest opportunity for a job would be driving over an hour away for George.
