I called the county's deparment of weights and measures yesterday and they are going to the station today to investigate.  I am impressed by that response.

That is good news! I live near there but have never been to that station, will be sure to stay away. Now will your CC reimburse you?

I think Amex will reimburse me, but the charge actually hasn't posted yet so they can't officially start the complaint-I need to call them back in a few days.  The county said they would get back to me after they go out there.  Like I said, I'm really impressed with their follow-through.

its a big deal...if their calibration is off then they are overcharging everyone...if their calibration isn't off, then they're just ripping people off!

Sarah i went to fill up when I was in NJ last weekend and after the guy pumped the gas and swiped my credit card I looked at the receipt and it siad he pumped 17.3 gallons.  My car only needed a half tank and 17 gallons or so is what it takes to fill the tank when the empty light is on, so i needed like 9 gallons tops.  When I questioned him he gave me some BS answer and I just knew I wouldn't get anywhere with him.  I made a psa/fyi post about it the other day and a few people suggested I contact the dept. of weights and measures who I called yesterday and got a VM from this AM that they are going to investigate today.  The difference b/w how much I needed and what they said they filled up was ridiculous and I was pissed.

Wow! I'm glad you called and that they took it seriously.

It also makes me think I should be paying more attention to this stuff.
