Where are you vacationing in 2012?

I haven't had the opportunity to travel much over the past 5 years because of a low-paying job and lack of time off from work. I'd really like to start taking at least one big trip a year! So where are you going in 2012, and are you already planning vacations beyond this year?

We're going to Jamaica (Couples Tower Isle in Ocho Rios) in April for our one-year anniversary. We never took a honeymoon, and I've never been to the Caribbean, so I am so, so excited. I just bought my first trip-related purchase the other day, a pair of prescription goggles so I can snorkel and actually see!

We're also likely going to Las Vegas around Thanksgiving for my aunt and uncle's 10-year anniversary. They got married in 2002 in Las Vegas (second marriage for both), and they try to get everyone together every five years for a big weekend party right after Thanksgiving. The five-year party was tons of fun, and I'm excited for my husband to meet my three favorite cousins, who aren't able to come to our wedding.

Then we're looking at 2013 for either a trip to London or a trip to San Francisco. My husband is an Oakland Raiders fan, so he's always wanted to go there, but he's also never been to Europe. I think we could have tons of fun in both places, but I think the deciding factor will be if we have a baby or not -- San Fran would probably be a bit easier with a child in tow.

  • Probably nowhere since the house is sucking up our savings fast. We'll probably do little daytrips here and there.
  • I think we are planning to go to OC for a week in July. DS's daycare is closed, so we want to take advantage and cover that week for a vacation. Neither of us have been on a real beach vacation in years and it will be DS's first beach trip!! We have no idea where to stay though.

  • DH's family has a tiny cottage on Martha's Vineyard, so we are going there for maybe a week in June. We might be making it to the familiy trip to OBX, but not sure yet.

  • We are leaving tomorrow for 10 day ski trip to Whistler! We are spending a night on both ends in Seattle.

Does Cleveland for July 4th count?

In August we always go to Ft. L for a week for my birthday.  However, now that my parents are retired they plan on living most of the year there so I am hoping they will give us the place for that week still.

We go to the US Open in Sept., but I don't know if that really counts as "vacationing."

  • We went to Italy and bought a house last fall within a month of each other (not planned that way) so no big trips this year... but we'll go to OC, MD for a few days and stay with family. I will also go somewhere (undecided) for the weekend for my friend's b-party and we'll be going to Chicago in October when I run the marathon. My pipe dream is to go visit a friend in Costa Rica for Thanksgiving to avoid the holiday/family shuffle, but we'll see... depends if he will even be there and how much flights cost.

  • We're planning to do a Europe vacation probably in May, London plus somewhere else, possibly France and/or Spain, or Ireland, undecided right now.  But I'm really looking forward to it, wherever we end up!
  • Most likely no where. I really wanted to get away for the weekend with the girls while I'm on maternity leave, but I'm not sure how much DH will have by then.

  • We're going to South Dakota this August for our 5 year anniversary. With all the home renovations we have planned our vacation fun is pretty diminished, so we'll do a few smaller trips throughout the year.

  • San Francisco, Bermuda, and San Antonio DH has his some trips planned of his own to go fishing in Minnesota and Canada, and I'm seriously debating about tagging along on one of them so I can hang out with my friend at MOA.
  • My Mom is generously taking our entire family to Disney World in October. It will be the first time we've *all* gone somewhere together, and I am over-the-top ridiculously excited about it. It will be my Mom, DH/DD/Baby/Me, My sister and her 19-year old daughter, my other sister/her husband/their 4 kids. AND one of my BFFs, her husband, their three kids and her parents are all going at the same time. It's going to be utter chaos and I can't wait.

  • We only have 2 things really scheduled this year:

South Carolina beach for a week in June w/ DH's family

Marco Island, FL for a week in September

I'm debating/searching for somethng for our anniversary in May - but it will be kid-free and 2 nights!

We'll probably do a long weekend in July in PA for Dutch Wonderland/Hershey trip.

  • we don't know yet.....we might just do OC again this year since our budget is pretty strained. our friends' parents own the condo and rent it to us for a pretty good price.

however if there is anything I learned its that vacationing with kids is not really that relaxing.

  • I'm going on a family cruise to Bermuda/Rhode Island/Boston that leave from Baltimore sans DH in June, and then DH and I are going to New Orleans for our 5 year anniversary. I've never been to any of these places, aside from Boston. Very excited!

this is the beauty of the family vacation!  Although I do feel a little like my MIL is hovering the whole time, dying to step in and help/take over.

  • We're going to Outer Banks in July.  Was hoping to visit BIL and SIL in North Carolina one last time before they move, but it doesn't look like that will be happening.
  • We are spending a week in OC, MD like we do every year. I am toying with the idea of surprising DH with a trip to LA (mayyyybe LA/Vegas) for his 30th in August. He's always wanted to go to a taping of  The Price is Right so I'd try to get tickets there. I want to do it but the thought of leaving B for even a night makes my stomach lurch and I just don't know if I'll be able to do it.

  • Day trIp to Boston in March (just to have lunch at Quincy Market!)

OC at some point since DH didn't get to go with us last summer.

I really want to take a girl's trip to Vegas with my sister when she stops BFing.

I'm trying to talk DH into a short cruise.  Not sure if it will happen but I can dream!

  • So far the only thing on our agenda is our annual beach trip w/ DH's family in Augus - we'll do Rehoboth for a week and Cape May for a week.
  • We haven't solidified anything yet but I am thinking napa for our 5 year anniversary in November. A few days there then a few driving the pacific coast highway. Maybe a trip to new England in the summer. But I might save that for next year. We shall see.
  • We have many weekend trips planned to Jacksonville to relax. The good thing about living in FL is that you have somewhere to go and stay when you need to get away!

I'm going to Siesta Key with some girlfriends for her bday in April for 6 days.

Nothing else is planned as of now.

I completely read this sentence as "we bought a house in Italy last fall."  It took me a few minutes to get what you were really saying.

For our 5 year anniversary, we're staying at the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa.  We'll spend the whole weekend down there.

We have been talking Puerto Rico as a vacation, as well as Europe.  DH's school schedule will determine when and where we go.

  • We are going to Anaheim (for a conference. Neither DH nor I are Disney fans and DD will be 16 mos, so I doubt we'll go) and we are going to a beach in NC for a week with the IL's. I know you all are JEALOUS. (To be fair I love my IL's ,so I don't think the vacation will be too bad.)

  • A night in Philly in March to see the "Van Gogh Up Close" exhibit and eat some good food Smile

Napa/San Fran in May for a week (soo excited about this!)

Bethany Beach with my family sometime in July

Maybe Charleston SC in the fall and maybe Boston later in the year AND maybe Pittsburgh this spring

I wish! If so, I would have called it a villa and that's where we'd be vacationing :-)

  • We don't have anything planned.  We are talking about a vacation, but we are also trying to save for house.

  • I'll be vacationing at a hospital giving birth Wink   Then taking an under 2 month old to Cape May for DH's annual family beach trip...the same family trip to Cape May as ThePastorsWife
  • misscastle that sounds like a great way to spend your anniversary!!

We're going to Vegas in March for my moms 60th, OC for DH's bday, Aruba for 10 days in Sept, and taking my nephew to Disney World in November. We're going to try and get to OC more on the weekends this summer but I feel like I say that every summer and we only end up going a handful of times.
