Potty training help

I have two different issues. Please help. I am so tired of doing laundry!

1) M is mostly day trained. He goes when he needs to and at home he's great. At home he sits to pee and has a potty ring that also has a pee guard. But he's pretty good at pointing down (at least he seems to be). We have no over shooting issues. But at school he sits on a small toilet with no ring and no pee guard. He claims he is pointing down but nearly everyday I have wet clothes to wash because he overshot and hit them. Any advice on getting him to stop overshooting?

2) He is not night trained and I think it will be a long time before he is. He is pretty much a camel during the day, going only one or two times all day (which the doc said was okay), but he also seems to pee a lot at night. He sleeps in a pullup but he has woken me at 6am three times this week because he got the bed wet. Is there a special night time pullup or something? Any advice besides "buy more sheets"?

Thanks.

I don't have advice really but wanted to sympathize. G has been trained since 2.5 and still wears & needs a pull up at night. Some days she'll wake up dry. Other days soaked. She does go right before bed and before she wanders into our room at whatever time she does this but she still needs it.

To add to the issue he refuses to go to the bathroom if he's wearing a pullup because "I'm wearing a pullup. That's what they are for". So we have to put it on immediately before bed and immediate move to underwear when he wakes up.

But last night he went right before bed and still he peed so much it leaked.

And then there was the night I completely forgot to switch him to a pullup--- that was not pretty.

  • With the overshooting issue, is there any way he would try standing? I have a little boy who was taught at home to sit, but he doesn't push down. I tried to have him stand and it seems to work better.
  • No advice on the overshooting but they do make overnight pullups.  We've never had a leak in the 6 months we're using them.  (knocking on wood).

I'm still struggling with him staying dry at home between school and bath time.  He's dry all day there but the minute we come home he "forgets" how to pee on the potty.

  • I have my son put his hands on his knees, so he's a bit leaned forward.  Someone on here, can't remember who, suggested having boys lean forward when the sit on the potty because it helps them to aim down.

  • I would start having him stand up. Once Dylan was standing it was much easier, especially with public bathrooms too. Have him stand and lean forward, putting his hands on the top of the tank part if the toilet. Perfect aim and helps him balance.
