I finished the Hunger Games - Gale lovers come in (probably spoilers)

I bet her FUPA's name is Shane, like the gunslinger/drifter of literature.--HappyTummy
Almiost everything about the end annoyed me. Her ending up with Peeta was one of my few consolations, and Collins even ruined that for me a bit. Dammit.
Married Peeta?
Shut your whore mouth!
I think she was referring to the baby having.
No the kids.
I didn't love the ending. Of course I wanted bad ass Katniss to keep on being awesome. But I think it sort of makes sense that after everything they went through, she and Peeta were just tired, and wanted to live a quiet life.
I liked Gale, but not for her. Peeta was better for her, but I would rather she have ended up with no one.

If I were a man (or fitty) I'd totally call my penis THE WIZARD - HappyTummy
I don't get wanting her to end up alone, for a few reasons.
a) Wouldn't it be sad for her to go through all that and then just end up a miserable old spinster, alone with her nightmares and conflicted feelings about everyone who died for/because of her in her mind? Worst ending ever!
and
b) I wanted her and Peeta to end up together just as much for his sake as for hers. As a boy, taking a beating to give her bread and save her life, loving her unconditionally while she flitted back and forth and ran in circles, always giving her grace when she was awful, while she gave him none. Saving effing district 13 by warning them on tv even when he was an abandoned, tortured prisoner. Always trying to do the right thing, and keeping his soft, melty little heart even when his home and his family are destroyed. Peeta deserves happiness, ffs!
I liked Gale, but I always feel like I am rooting for the bad boy type in stories (See Eric in True Blood). Peeta annoyed me for some reason. There is something more honest about Gale's intentions. He never claimed to be something or feel something he didn't. Peeta was sneaky and weird about it-not bothering to talk to her for years, randomly annoucing his love without warning her, randomly annoucing her pregnancy, getting all stroppy when she didn't immediately return his love, the whole forcing her to to have the kids thing PPs have mentioned.
But overall I liked Finnick the best, so there is that. And if he is not an option, then I too would have preferred her to end up alone.
Yeah yeah yeah. Tell that to Mitchell.
I love the married old hags saying, "I wish she ended up alone." If that sounds so great, you try it!

The grass is greener.....
I don't mean ALONE alone. But maybe she could have married someone she met after she was an adult?

I don't know how someone could spend their life with someone they met as an adult after all she went through and saw. It might have just been easier to stick with someone who understands and was there.

Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
You get tortured and brainwashed by the enemy, manage to fight it off for the most part - have one or two moments of weakness, and suddenly all of your adorable, bread-making, cake-decorating bravery means nothing!
I don't think Katniss could end up with someone normal after what happened. Putting myself in her shoes, if I woke up from a horrific nightmare about watching my sister being blown up, or running from death in an arena, and some jerk was all "Oh, let me hold you, it's alright" I'd be like "Fucckk you!"
"That chick wins at Penises, for sure." -- Fenton
I tend to agree that Peeta particularly deserved some version of a happy ending. Even if Katniss ending up alone would be more realistic, I was glad that after everything she endured, she got some version of a normal life and family and I think it is important that she was shown being able to have children knowing they would never have to enter the lobby to be tributes.
Her meeting someone as an adult might work in real life but not for a novel that needed an ending.

This. Finnick was the badassiest of them all. I wanted her to end up with him. Like someone else said in a previous "Hunger Games" post, there are more than 2 eligible men on the planet. And considering she is what, 17 years old? GEEZ! I liked Annie, but would rather have had her be killed off to free Finnick up for Katniss.
There were not more than 2 eligible men on the planet of Katniss. It was a trilogy. not an open ended series.
I must have missed something because Finnick barely registered for me until he said his wife/gf was pg and then died.

LAALAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi.
And yes, her mom kinda sucked. She got a bit more awesome as the books went on.
I was super pissed at how they killed Finnick. I felt like he was so badasss and awesome, and then the story of how he was actually a sex slave who missed his mentally ill love, and not the sleaze everyone thought. The fact that they had him eaten in a sewer by mutant rat lizards, as opposed to a shinier, more dignified death, really pissed me off. I know it's cliche and that my need for happy endings and valiant deaths is tween, but I don't care. Trying to remain an eternal optimist in a world that is frequently a miserable place in which people doing unspeakable things to each other, I need hope in my entertainment.
Finnick barely registered? WHA? As a grown woman, he should have inspired more lustiness in you than the two teenagers, no? I would gladly have a tortured, unstable, super emo romance with Finnick.
As for being pro-Gale, for me it was that their relationship was completely natural and was rooted in real life. Her thing with Peeta really only began as part of the theatrics of the games. How much of that was manipulation to survive and how much was real? Would either of them ever know for sure?
