I'm losing steam with my weight loss :(

I've completely plateaued (sp?) at 40lbs. It's taken me A MONTH to lose 5 lbs. I'm frustrated and losing motivation. I'm only a few pounds away from several BIG milestones so I'm trying to stay focused but I'm bloated and pms'ing this week and just want to lay on the couch and pig out :(

Re: I'm losing steam with my weight loss :(

  • you got to change things up when you are plateaued- different food, different exercise- etc... you can do it- look how far you have come!

Ditto! I'm nowhere near this point yet but this is what I've heard as well. Hang tough!

  • Hang in there, you have come so far and 5 pounds in a month is good!  I have a lot to lose and I have lost like 7 since new  year's.  For some reason this time is harder probably because I am older now.  You have done great so far, look how far you have come!!!

  • Well honestly 5lbs in 1 month is a lot. I can only do that if I am working out HARD 4-5x a week.

The bloat would be contributor to 2-5 lbs, up your intake of water and watch what you are eating in regards to sodium.

If you feel this is a true weight loss plateau you need to switch up your exercise routine, go longer, harder, more weights.

  • Get to the gym and try something different!! Try hot yoga! :-)

  • 5 pounds in a month is a reasonable expectation.

What kind of work outs are you doing? Can you change it up?

  • You've done so well.  Plateaus are a normal part of any weight loss program regardless of how disciplined you are.

I've been struggling too a bit lately and I watched a program on TLC last night called My Life 600lbs.  It was Melissa's story.  OMG!!!!!  I was totally inspired.  See if you can check it out.

  • thanks ladies. I know 5 lbs is still good, but when I was averaging 7-10lbs a month its a little disappointing.

I know what I NEED to do, i just need to find the motivation to follow through.

  • I agree that plateaus are normal in any weight loss regimen.  It may also be that you honestly don't have that much more to lose, so it's not going to fall off.  It's frustrating - really!! I feel you!

i seriously hope thats not the case. i am nowhere near being satisfied with my weight!

  • sorry, it's frustrating i know!! like the others, i suggest changing things up! do you have a friend to work out with or at least swap healthy food ideas? i love having friends in my classes at the gym so i'm kind of held accountable when i don't show-and they push me harder when i don't think i can! it's really helpful.

do you have the nike fitness app? i just downloaded it but haven't tried it out yet.  supposed to be  great! maybe they have something new you can do that'll give you a boost.  also, not sure if you're doing any weight training, but i was yelled at when i was only doing cardio.  my teacher told me i HAD to get some weights in there and that not only would it tone me up but it would burn fat faster.

i'm far from done losing too so i know it's frustrating to see how much you've lost but still have more to go.  just focus on the summer and how great you'll feel running around with your kids and not wanting to hide! that's my motivation ;)
