After years of commuting to Morristown every day with a 2+ hour commute round trip, sitting in traffic on rte 80 or 287 and missing time with my family, I finally found a job with an awesome commute, close to home and amazing hours. It's afforded me the ability to drop off W at school on some mornings, pick him up in the afternoon and just feel like a better mother.
Now, the new job is moving to Fairfield. Really? Sure, it's the 1/2 way point between the old commute but really?? WTF universe. Why can't I ever win, huh? Why doesn't anything ever work out for me. I'm starting to loose count of the number of times that I've thought I found the "perfect" job only for it to blow up in my face.
I seriously am tired of this ***.
Re: oh pooey, i'm upset right now
Ditto! Which reminds me, we're overdue for lunch ...
Mangia! My Family Table
better than overdue for delivery! I'm free whenever, let me know!
lets put it in perspective though- it is not a horrible commute- fairfield depending on where is not as bad as Morristown- and the roads you will have to travel are nothing like 287- plus, the hours will still be great- yeah it stinks that they are moving- but if they don't move, maybe that means no job to do? right?
I just really hate the term FML- I just think nothing is that bad- yes it sucks- but this is really not so awful that life is going to be horrendous now- breath- and it will all be ok-

Monday?
Mangia! My Family Table
that works for me.
I agree!
That does suck but for the time you have left before the move, enjoy it. Also, would it be possible to negotiate working from home one day a week to make up for the move? Can't hurt to ask!
perspective please. This is a FML? Come on, you have a shorter commute...
Agree agree!
Yeah it sucks but you actually still have a job, that you seem to like, that allows you to be on the nest during the day so you cant be chained to your phone all day so busy your head might explode. Glass 1/2 full.
this made me laugh...and it's very true! definitely not a FML...and I hate that term too.
"Like" me on Facebook
It's the fact that after months of looking for something that would provide me a better quality of life, I'm back to where I was. Driving a shitastic commute on a highway that is prone to major traffic and delays.
I appreciate the, "you still have a job," I get the whole glass 1/2 full, I hear the "have perspective" but you know what....it's not your life, now is it???? My priorities don't include wasting over an hour in the car every day. THAT'S WHY I FOUND A NEW JOB. So excuse me that I'm a little pissed off right now. Some people like to work close to home. I'm one of those people. And now I have to start all over again.
So you DON'T wanna get lunch when you make the move?
then say that....Say DAMN, I am so pissed, my new job wasnt the fix I needed. You explained yourself perfectly that anyone can understand why in fact you would be so disappointed and angry
but FML, well we pointed out why in fact your life isnt f-ed, it just isnt working out like you have planned and hoped. I am sure we are get that and sympathize
That blows and I'm sorry. You're entitled to feel how you feel.
Take a few days to absorb this. Maybe it won't be that bad. Like someone suggested, is there anyway to adjust your hours? 4 day weeks, or a WFM option?

I'm sorry. That really sucks. They've been discussing an office move for us for over a year now. It'll probably lengthen my commute, but it's still a much easier commute than when I used to go to the city.
I also just wanted to chime in with everybody that hates the the phrase FML. It is so overused. I hate when people will be like, no diet coke in the vending machine, FML! Keep things in perspective people!

Don't you know you should be happy you have a job and suck it up?!
Kidding!
That sucks. I am sorry!
LMAO!!!!
I get what you are saying and it does suck- I don't think anyone is saying it doesn't, but that until it happens see what it will be like- Fairfield isn't that far- at least from me- it only takes me about 20-25 minutes- so there may be other options to drive there- Would they allow 4 day work week? All I am saying is that it is not the end of the world- and you can work out your annoyance tonight at bootcamp!

ha me too! i'm 5 mins away!
she is a grown up. she can say what she wants and how she wants it. who cares!!
this is no offense to you regina or to anyone else who doesn't like driving but i have a 55 minute commute on the very best traffic day ever. i just can't get worked up over a 30 minute commute. i take that back, i could get worked up over it if that was my option. i'd LOVE that kind of commute.
it does suck in the "Hey! that's gas money i didn't budget for!" kind of way. IDK if this is FML level but it does suck.
You took the words out of my mouth!
Christ, people, with the amount if idiotic things people *** about on here ad nauseum, she's allowed to complain about a changing commute when it's not what she signed up for.
Regina, I'm sorry, I know you left your last gig for this very reason. I have a feeling that this won't be as bad as you're anticipating. I'm doing the same thing starting Monday - going from 5 minutes to what will be anywhere from 35 to god only knows how long. Granted, mine is by choice, but it's definitely daunting!
LMAO. I'd love to!
so you're TELLING ME THERE'S A CHANCE!
I agree.
