I rarely come to this board so forgive me if this has been discussed on occasion (I went back about 5 pages and did not see this asked).
Short story/question: Is it bad/unsafe to order flea and tick prevention (Advantix) from the 1800Petmeds website?
Long story/question: I recently sent in an order to petmeds for a year supply of Heartguard and Advantix. However, my vet called me yesterday to advise me against it because they often times get their products from illegitimate sources. He also told me that ordering it through the vet office is a little bit cheaper... so I decided to just order the heartguard through them. Since the flea and tick prevention doesn't need a prescription PetMeds has already processed the order and shipped it to me yesterday. Should I return it and order it through my vet or just keep it?
Re: 1800 Pet Meds
My vet's office only called me to ensure Zoey had already been on heartworm meds (therefore couldn't be infected with heartworm before starting preventative, which would be bad) before they would confirm/allow the order through PetMeds.
I order my heartworm and flea/tick preventatives through PetMeds. So far so good; it's one of the more reliable ordering sites (yes, others can have unreliable/illegitimate sources that could mean you're getting expired or bad medication). I haven't ordered through my vet because it hasn't been cheaper and they STILL haven't informed me whether or not they do price matching and I've asked several times. No one ever has an answer, so I order where I can save money.
Side note: If you order through PetMeds and your dog does end up with fleas, for example, Advantix is not obligated to reimburse you. Ordering through the vet's office provides a guarantee of the medications effectiveness, and you're covered in case the medication doesn't work for whatever reason.
