This really sucks

H's uncle has been battling esophageal cancer. He was in remission for a while, but the cancer came back, and he's had a lot of ups and downs since then. Now, he is saying that he wants to plan a half-Thanksgiving in May. Apparently, he's not confident that he'll be around for next Thanksgiving.

The one thing that is giving me hope in all of this is that he does have a tendency to over-react and be melodramatic at times, so I'm really hoping that's what this is. He's really a great guy.

Cancer sucks so very much.

  • Yes, yes it does.  If he does have a 1/2 T-Day, I hope he proves himself wrong and has to endure two Thanksgivings in one year!

I hope he's able to fight it and goes into remission again soon.

  • Well, maybe you can just look at it as a great meal with an incredible family member and not a negative thing like he might be thinking.

I can't imagine how he must feel.

    ((hugs))

  • I'm so sorry. Cancer sucks, indeed

  • It really does suck balls.  Fvvck cancer.

I hope he is just overreacting and you get to see him prove himself wrong in November.  I think the half-Thanksgiving is a nice idea though (when you don't consider the reason for it) - it can't hurt him to be surrounded by family and good food, right?

  • Oh, yeah, I'm certainly not objecting to a half-Thanksgiving. Even if it's slightly somber, it's worth doing. I just really hope time proves him wrong!
  • I am sorry to hear this, cancer is the worst.

I hope things turn around and he can continue to live longer than expected.  At least you still have some time to plan out a few more memories to cherish with him.

  • Cancer does suck hard.

I hope time does prove him wrong and he has 2 wonderful Thanksgivings in one year. Getting together and having great food and wonderful times with family sounds like just what you all need.

  • I also hope time proves him wrong and you get to enjoy his company twice!
