If you've had a dog with cancer....

Even when he/she was still eating well, did he/she get very thin?

Seamus just seems so thin to me.  He's always been chubby, and he's lost some weight in the past 6 months (since he developed diabetes...the change in diet did help him lose weight, to a healthier weight).   In the past 4 weeks, since his cancer diagnosis, he just seem so thin.  Maybe it's my imagination, since he's always been chunky and I am not used to it.   But it's making me very nervous.  He is still eating very well.  He still begs for food and gets excited for his meals.   His energy level is good...not great, he sleeps a lot, but he's fairly active.

I'm getting really scared that the end is near.  I know he is going to die, but I guess I am just not prepared for this.

  • Unfortunately, yes.  My first dog was not overweight but at a good size.  Within a month of his diagnosis, he was almost bones.

    I'm sorry Sad

I think this is a great sign that he is doing well!

    I have to agree.

I didn't really notice a weight change maybe a bit towards the end and it was because he wasn't eating or throwing up after eating.

  • Yes. Weight loss was actually one of the first signs she was sick in the first place.

  • Yes, he got skinny - but he still loved a while after he got skinny.  It wasn't like, he got skinny and then died a few days later.  I know that this is SO MUCH easier said than done, but try not to even think about his symptoms or what he looks like.  If he's happy - enjoy that time with him.  HUGS!
