Visiting Dallas

Hello TX Nesties!  My girlfriends and I are planning a girls weekend to Dallas and I would love to hear some recommendations.  What part of town should be be staying in if we want to hit up some trendy bars and restaurants? Also, what ares of town would be great to visit for shopping, dining, drinking? Any specific hotel names would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Visiting Dallas

  • Uptown (where I work) is a great location--the hotels can be kind of expensive though.

    The Stoneleigh

Warwick Melrose (I got married here so I'm biased :))

    Hotel ZaZa

Addison is also a great location and the hotels there would probably be cheaper.

Hotel Intercontinental (I've stayed here before)

    Crowne Plaza (also nice)

There's also a Marriott and a Hyatt, Hilton Garden Inn, Embassy Suites, etc.  There is also a Hyatt downtown as well as the new Omni, as well as boutique hotels like the Joule and the Magnolia.  It really just depends on your budget.  The two big Dallas malls are the Galleria and Northpark Mall -- there is a Westin at the Galleria.

  • There's the Doubletree Campbell Centre which is across a highway from North Park and is part way between Uptown and the Galleria so that might not be a bad place to set up camp.
  • Personally, I would recommend Uptown and the hotels that Stephie mentioned.  All of those are awesome hotels.

As for dining, you mentioned trendy restaurants so I'll throw out a few in the Uptown area:

    • Private|Social - If you watch Top Chef this is Tiffany Dery's new restaurant.  DH and I went there about a month ago.  Food was delicious, cocktails  were amazing!
    • Breadwinners - Casual place, delicious bakery.  Great for Breakfast, Brunch, lunch or a casual dinner
    • Sambuca - Fun cocktails, has a band on the weekends.  Fun, jazzy, classy place.
    • Fireside Pies - Gourmet pizzas.  They source local, grow their basil on the roof.  AWESOME patio, delicious pizza, and yummy sangria.
    • Hibuscus - This is a favorite of DH and I's.  It is contemporary American cuisine.  You can get a delicious steak or a great piece of fish.  They have contemporary twists to traditional food and a lot of great cocktails.

All of these are in the heart of uptown.  There is also a trolley that runs through uptown for free.  It is a lot of fun just to ride that, and the added bonus is you can hop off and try any of the bar's along the loop.  There are many great choices!  Just see what is hopping as you are riding!

ETA - I forgot about shopping!  As mentioned Northpark is a wonderful mall and probably my favorite.  But, if you stay in Uptown go to the West Village.  It is an outdoor mall that has all the shops, close to where you are staying (on the trolley route) and you don't have to drive.

  • The Warwick (the hotel another person mentioned) has a GREAT bar called The Library Bar. It's near downtown and it's fantastic. The W hotel by the American Airlines Center in victory park has The Ghost Bar at the bottom, and that place is pretty nice, too.

    Enjoy your stay! (:
